    Abstract: In one embodiment, a gateway label edge router (G-LER) receives a packet destined for a mobile domain that comprises a vehicle label edge router. The G-LER identifies, from among a plurality of primary domains, a particular primary domain that currently has a label switched connection with the mobile domain. The label switched connection connects the vehicle label edge router of the mobile domain and a cluster label edge router of the particular primary domain. The G-LER sends the packet to the cluster label edge router of the particular primary domain for transmission to the vehicle label edge router via the label switched connection.     Abstract: In one embodiment, a mobile system receives a group identifier for wireless access points associated with a pathway via which the mobile system is to travel. The mobile system receives, during travel of the mobile system along the pathway, beacons from a plurality of wireless access points. Each of the plurality of wireless access points indicates its group identifier in its beacon. The mobile system selects, based on the beacons, a particular access point from among the plurality of wireless access points for roaming, in part by giving preference to any access points in the plurality of wireless access points having a group identifier that matches the group identifier associated with the pathway. The mobile system wirelessly roams to the particular access point.

The device makes a determination that the one or more packets should be compressed, based on the transmission rate selected by the device. The device applies, based on the determination, stateless offline dictionary compression to the one or more packets, to form a compressed stream of one or more packets. The device sends the compressed stream via the wireless network and using the transmission rate selected by the device.

The supervisory process generates an attenuation configuration for the particular node that specifies the optimal amount of radio frequency attenuation that the particular node should use.     Abstract: In one embodiment, a mobile system populates a rate lookup table using sampled data indicative of signal strength measurements, traffic quality of service tags, and transmission rates for wireless communications between the mobile system and one or more access points of a wireless network. The mobile system determines a quality of service tag for traffic to be sent between the mobile system and a particular access point of the wireless network and a signal strength between the mobile system and the particular access point. The mobile system selects, using the rate lookup table, a transmission rate for the traffic to be sent, based on the quality of service tag and the signal strength determined by the mobile system. The mobile system sends the traffic from the mobile system to the particular access point using the transmission rate.

The hello packets from the current base station are received on a first frequency via a first mobile radio unit (M1) and the hello packets from one or more base stations are received on a second frequency via a second mobile radio unit (M2). When the signal strength value of the current base station exceeds a threshold value, the mobile radio station: selects a destination from the plurality of base stations based on the destination having a highest signal strength value among those in the plurality of base stations that sent hello packets to M2 on the second frequency, and forces a handoff from M1 to M2, by establishing a new link between M2 and the destination base station.

    Abstract: In one embodiment, a gateway to a Layer-3 network forms a first Layer-2 tunnel between the gateway and a first wireless access point (AP) that communicates wirelessly with a first mobile node of a mobile system (MS) via a first wireless connection. The gateway generates a mapping that associates an onboard device of the MS with the first AP and an identifier for the MS, based on traffic conveyed via the first Layer-2 tunnel and associated with the onboard device, the traffic comprising a header that indicates the identifier for the MS. The gateway receives, from a second AP, an indication that the MS is roaming from the first wireless connection to a second wireless connection, the indication including the identifier for the MS. The gateway updates the mapping to associate the onboard device of the MS with a second AP, based on the indication that the MS is roaming.
