  • Publication number: 20030060527
Abstract: A hemo- and biocompatible polymeric adsorbing material for purification of physiological fluids of an organism has a plurality of beads, each having a core having hydrophobic properties and a plurality of pores, and a coating having a hydrophilic, hemo- and bicompatible property applied on a surface of the core and occupying about 20%-90% of the surface of the core so as to form on the surface of the core alternating portions of the hydrophilic hemo- and biocompatible coating and portions of hydrophobic core which are not covered with the coating. A method of producing the material includes the selective coating of the surface of the core. A device for and a method of purification of physiological fluids of organism includes the use of the new material.

  • Patent number: 6531523
Abstract: A beaded polymeric adsorbent has a core part; a shell part arranged around the core part, with one of the parts having a lipophilic property and another of the parts having a hydrophilic property, and is produced by preparing an organic phase composed of water insoluble monounsaturated and poly unsaturated comonomers; preparing an aqueous phase composed of a mixture of water soluble monounsaturated and polyunsaturated comonomers; forming a dispersion of the organic phase and the aqueous phase in a single vessel; and creating conditions for first polymerizing of one of the phases which forms the core part and thereafter polymerizing the other of the phases which forms the shell part.

  • Publication number: 20020198487
Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods reduce levels of pro-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory stimulators or mediators in physiologic fluid by selective adsorption. The devices, systems, and methods are useful in situations where abnormal levels of or unregulated or excessive interaction among pro-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory stimulators or mediators occur, or during events that do induce or have the potential for inducing abnormal production of pro-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory stimulators or mediators. The devices, systems, and methods serve to prevent, control, reduce, or alleviate the severity of the inflammatory response and disease states that are associated with abnormal levels of or unregulated or excessive interaction among pro-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory stimulators or mediators.

  • Publication number: 20020146413
Abstract: A system for treating serious infections and sepsis caused by infections by withdrawing blood from a patient, passing the withdrawn blood through a particulate hemocompatible polymer material for removing toxins, and returning the blood from which the toxins have been removed back to the patient, the system comprising the particulate hemocompatible material which includes a first group of macroporous particles which are hydrophobic and positively charged so as to provide adherence of endotoxin to an inner surface of particles of the first group, and also a second group of mesoporous particles which are hydrophobic and are not charged and have a pore size selected so that cytokines and superantigens adhere to an inner surface of the particles of the second group.
