  • Patent number: 10888315
Abstract: An implant insertion device is adapted for use with a shape memory implant. The shape memory implant includes a bridge interconnecting first and second legs. The shape memory implant is movable between a first shape in which the first and second legs are substantially non-parallel and a second shape in which the first and second legs are substantially parallel. The implant insertion device engages the shape memory implant to maintain the shape memory implant in its second shape until the delivery of the shape memory implant into tissue or bone.

  • Publication number: 20200330285
Abstract: A dressing for managing an incision and surrounding tissue where edema and swelling may be present post-operation. The dressing may maximize coverage of area in articulating joints, such as a knee or elbow, while allowing for substantial range of motion. In some embodiments, the dressing may comprise an adhesive border configured to be adhered to skin around an articulating joint, a skin-interfacing fabric for minimizing skin irritation, a foam body for manifolding negative pressure and absorbing exudate and other body fluids, and a thin polymer film cap for sealing the assembly so negative pressure can be maintained throughout the dressing.

  • Publication number: 20200113741
Abstract: A system for treating a linear wound on a patient that has a closing dressing bolster for placing on the patient's epidermis over the linear wound, a sealing subsystem for providing a seal over the closing dressing bolster and the patient, and a reduced-pressure subsystem for delivering reduced pressure to the sealing subsystem. The sealing subsystem and reduced pressure subsystem are operable to deliver reduced pressure to the closing dressing bolster. The closing dressing bolster is operable under reduced pressure to develop a inward closing. The closing dressing bolster may include one or more closing members on each side of a center wound area to create the inward closing when under reduced pressure. A compressive force may also be developed. Other systems and methods are presented.

  • Publication number: 20200000464
Abstract: An orthopedic fixation system fuses bone, bones, or bone pieces in a predetermined anatomical position. The orthopedic fixation system includes an implant that transitions between an unconstrained shape and a constrained insertion shape, a drill guide, first and second K-wires, and a cannulated drill bit. The drill guide and the first and second K-wires retain the bone, bones, or bone pieces in an anatomical position corresponding with the predetermined anatomical position. The cannulated drill bit fits over the first and second K-wires and drills, respectively, first and second drilled holes into the bone, bones, or bone pieces. After insertion of the implant into the first and second drilled holes, the implant attempts to transition from its constrained insertion shape to its unconstrained shape such that the implant continuously compresses the bone, bones, or bone pieces thereby holding the bone, bones, or bone pieces in the predetermined anatomical position.

Abstract: An ion source for use in a radiation generator tube includes a back passive cathode electrode, a passive anode electrode downstream of the back passive cathode electrode, a magnet adjacent the passive anode electrode, and a front passive cathode electrode downstream of the passive anode electrode. The front passive cathode electrode and the back passive cathode electrode define an ionization region therebetween. At least one ohmically heated cathode is configured to emit electrons into the ionization region. The back passive cathode electrode and the passive anode electrode, and the front passive cathode electrode and the passive anode electrode, have respective voltage differences therebetween, and the magnet generating a magnetic field, such that a Penning-type trap is produced to confine the electrons to the ionization region. At least some of the electrons in the ionization region interact with an ionizable gas to create ions.

  • Patent number: 9603233
Abstract: A pulsed neutron generator includes neutron tube and a high voltage power supply. High voltage power supply includes a bulkhead and plurality of electronic components electrically connected between the bulkhead and the target of the neutron tube. A heat pipe is provided in thermal contact with the target and has a housing portion with an exterior surface supporting the plurality of electronic components of the high voltage power supply. Heat pipe includes wick and heat transfer fluid disposed within the housing portion. The wick for recirculates the heat transfer fluid within the housing portion in order to transfer heat away from the target preferably to the bulkhead for dissipation the system housing. Both the wick and heat transfer fluid are preferably realized from materials that have low electrical conductivity. The heat pipe can also be part of other-type particle accelerators, such as x-ray sources and gamma-ray sources.

  • Patent number: 9448327
Abstract: A logging tool is for determining a property of a subsurface formation having a borehole therein and includes a housing to fit within the borehole. An x-ray generator is carried by the housing and includes at least three extractor electrodes, an electron emitter to emit electrons toward the extractor electrodes, and a target downstream of the extractor electrodes. The extractor electrodes have independently selectable potentials so as to allow direction of an electron beam, formed from the electrons emitted by the electron emitter, toward different longitudinal and lateral regions of the target, the target to emit x-rays into the subsurface formation when struck by the electron beam. A radiation detector is carried by the housing to detect incoming radiation resulting from interactions between the x-rays and the subsurface formation. Processing circuitry is coupled to the radiation detector to determine the property of the subsurface formation based upon detected incoming radiation.
