  • Publication number: 20190388979
Abstract: A drill bit for forming a round hole in a workpiece, includes a cylindrical shank having a longitudinally extending fluted portion with opposed first and second ends, and defining a longitudinal axis about which the shank is rotatable. The fluted portion includes opposed helical flutes formed in the cylindrical surface of the fluted portion of the shank and extending longitudinally along and between the first and second ends of the fluted portion. The helical flutes each define a concave surface intersecting with the cylindrical surface of the shank to form opposed flute edges. The first end of the fluted portion includes a cutting tip intersecting the helical flutes, wherein at least one of the flute edges has a concave cross-section extending from the second end toward the first end of the fluted portion.

  • Patent number: 10335138
Abstract: Certain embodiments relate to method of passing a suture through a material using a suture passer. In certain embodiments, the suture passer includes a housing defining a linear motion axis, a needle mounted for translation along the motion axis, and a foot mounted to the housing. The foot has a distal portion with a proximal facing surface extending along a distal portion axis crossing the motion axis and a distal facing surface, the distal portion including an opening in the proximal facing surface aligned with the motion axis and able to receive the needle in the second position. In certain embodiments, a method includes positioning a distal portion of the foot of the suture passer behind the material, extending the needle through the material and into the opening in the distal portion, and retracting the needle to retrieve a bight of suture from the distal portion proximally through the material.

  • Patent number: 9955963
Abstract: Methods and instruments for repairing soft tissues of a skeletal joint, such as, for example, of the foot or hand are presented. Disclosed techniques include techniques for the repair of a palmar plate of a hand or foot, including advancing a foot of a suture passer through, or adjacent to, a joint space and advanced into a flexor tendon sheath a distance to produce an amount of suture purchase on a plantar/palmar plate. The foot of the suture passer can also be moved medially or laterally away from a joint midline but still within the flexor tendon sheath to further locate stitches. The sutures can then be secured to restore the function of the plantar/palmar plate.
