Patent number: 9211147Abstract: A bone plate assembly including at least one bone plate, polyaxially adjustable fixation elements and a polyaxially adjustable locking mechanism. A first plate includes at least one polyaxial element for lockable connection with a fixation pad, and a connection feature which allows the plate to translate and polyaxially rotate relative to the locking mechanism. A second plate includes at least one polyaxial element for connection with a fixation pad and a connection feature for non-rotatable connection with the locking mechanism. The locking mechanism allows translation and polyaxial adjustment of the first plate relative to the second plate and locks the first and second plates via a taper lock. The fixation pad includes a deflectable spacer configured to prevent premature locking of the pad. Methods for implantation of the bone plate assembly between two bone structures are disclosed. Instrumentation for implantation, compression and locking of the bone plate assembly is disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 2010Date of Patent: December 15, 2015Assignee: OsteoMed LLCInventors: Charles Gordon, Daniel Triplett, Darin Ewer, Nathan Nelson, M. Patent number: 9198675Abstract: A surgical rasping and/or shaving system functions in multiple orthopedic applications, including but not limited to shoulder, knee, hip, wrist, ankle, spinal, or other joint procedures. The system may comprise a tissue removal member with a rasping and/or shaving head which may be low profile and offer a flat cutting/rasping/shaving surface, or with a cutting head with at least one cutting edge. The tissue removal member is configured to be driven by an attached hub that translates a rotational movement into a reciprocating motion. Suction for removal of bone fragments or other tissues is provided through an opening spaced apart from or adjacent to the rasping surface. A radiofrequency ablation (RF) electrode may be carried on the system to provide ablation or coagulation of soft tissues.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 2013Date of Patent: December 1, 2015Assignees: IMDS LLCInventors: Keith J. Patent number: 8961604Abstract: A fixation implant and associated methods are presented. The fixation implant includes a shaft extending from a first end portion to a second end portion and having an intermediate portion therebetween. The intermediate portion is generally smooth and the end portions are threaded. The method includes use of the fixation implant for repair of a metapodial phalangeal joint of a human extremity. The method includes: forming a bone tunnel in a bone; approximating material near the bone tunnel; and threading the fixation implant into the bone tunnel in interference fashion to secure the material relative to the bone tunnel. The fixation implant may be cut such that the end portion is flush with the bone.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2012Date of Patent: February 24, 2015Assignee: Smith & Nephew, Inc.Inventors: T. Patent number: 8911474Abstract: An apparatus for inserting a suture anchor into an internal anatomical site through a cannula, or percutaneously, has a curved hollow guide for insertion into the cannula and/or tissue. The guide has a proximal end and a distal end. The distal end has a “parabolic” shape for engaging the intended anatomical site such as a glenoid. A flexible obturator is insertable through the curved guide from the proximal end to the distal end to facilitate insertion of the guide through the cannula. A flexible drill is insertable through the curved guide from the proximal to the distal end once the guide is in place. A flexible inserter is provided for inserting a suture anchor into a bore at the anatomical site formed by the flexible drill.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 2009Date of Patent: December 16, 2014Assignee: Howmedica Osteonics Corp.Inventors: Bryan Patrick Howard, Ryan E. Yearsley, M. Todd Miller, Wayne K. Auge, II, Chad Lewis, Daniel F. Justin, M. Mary Sinnott

Patent number: 8888849Abstract: A method of repairing soft tissue of a joint of a human extremity, such as a hand or foot. The method includes maintaining a metapodial bone intact; inserting a suture passing instrument into a space adjacent the metapodial and phalangeal bones; passing the suture through a volar ligament near a distal end of the metapodial bone and reattaching the volar ligament to the proximal phalanx. The method also includes making an incision on the dorsal aspect of the extremity to expose the dorsal aspect; inserting the distal portion of the suture passer instrument through the incision on the dorsal aspect of the extremity; inserting the distal portion of the suture passing instrument into a tendon sheath connected to a volar plate; and passing a portion of a suture through the volar plate.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2013Date of Patent: November 18, 2014Assignee: Smith & Nephew, Inc.Inventors: T Wade Fallin, M. Patent number: 8882834Abstract: Methods and instruments for repairing soft tissues of a skeletal joint, such as, for example, of the foot or hand are presented. The method includes the steps of maintaining the metapodial bone intact; forming a bone tunnel through the proximal phalanx between volar and dorsal aspects of the proximal phalanx; passing a repair suture through the soft tissue to be repaired; passing the repair suture through the bone tunnel; and securing the suture. The method may be used for the repair of soft tissue, such as a volar ligament and/or a collateral ligament.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 2012Date of Patent: November 11, 2014Assignee: Smith & Nephew, Inc.Inventors: M. Patent number: 8864797Abstract: A line lock system may include a line routed through a plate. The plate may have an elongated body with a plurality of passageways. The line is routed to form at least one one-way slide so no knots are required. The system may include filaments routed through the passageways of the plate or around a dogbone feature of the plate. The filaments may be used to toggle the plate after passage through a hole to prevent withdrawal of the plate back through the hole. The system may include a line lock stabilizer or counter-tension tool to stabilize the line lock as the line is adjusted. The system may include a compression limiter to selectively reduce compression in the one-way slide to facilitate adjustment of the line. The line lock stabilizer, counter-tension tool, or compression limiter may be a filament.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2011Date of Patent: October 21, 2014Assignee: Coorstek Medical LLCInventors: Daniel F.
