  • Patent number: 10547558
Abstract: Methods, systems and apparatus for a user equipment to implement a dynamic discard timer. The user equipment may generate a packet for transmission and store the packet in a buffer of the user equipment. The user equipment may then generate a timeout value for a discard timer for the buffer, where the discard timer discards the packet from the buffer when the timeout value is reached. After a predetermined amount of time, the user equipment may determine whether the packet has been discarded from the buffer and, when it is determined that the packet has not been discarded from the buffer, update the timeout value.

  • Patent number: 10375646
Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for scheduling radio resource control connections between a wireless device and a network element of a network in advance. According to some embodiments, a wireless device may provide an indication of one or more types of upcoming data traffic to the network element. The network element may schedule one or more radio resource control connections for the wireless device based at least in part on the indication of one or more types of upcoming data traffic. The network element may provide an indication of the scheduled radio resource control connection(s) to the wireless device. The wireless device and the network may establish the scheduled radio resource control connection at the scheduled time.

  • Publication number: 20190230561
Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for user equipment (UE) devices to perform more efficient frequency scans for potential base stations. According to techniques described herein, the UE may determine that it does not have cellular service and determine first information based on a last camped cell. A time period during which the first information was acquired may be determined and one or more frequency scans may be performed. The frequency scans may be limited to a set of frequencies based in part on the time period. Thus, if the time period is less than a first value, the set of frequencies may include a first set of frequencies and if the time period is greater than the first value but less than a second value, the set of frequencies may include the first set of frequencies and a second set of frequencies.

  • Patent number: 10313941
Abstract: Described herein are apparatus, systems and methods for improved mobility between wireless networks. A method may comprise, at a user equipment (“UE”) in communication with a cellular network activating a detach timer for the cellular network, detecting a short-range network, communicating with the short-range network, storing registration and bearer context data related to the cellular network, interrupting communication with the cellular network, and prior to the expiration of the detach timer, reconnecting to the cellular network via a service request without using an attach procedure.

  • Publication number: 20190075476
Abstract: A device, system, and method uses a camp only mode based on a connectivity status. The method is performed at a device that is configured to establish a first connection to a first network and configured to establish a second connection to a second network. The method includes determining the connectivity status of the device. When the connectivity status indicates that the device has established the first connection, the method includes utilizing a camp-only mode to monitor the second network, the camp-only mode reducing a frequency of at least one type of operation associated with the second network, the camp-only mode configured to retain a capability of determining whether an emergency message is being broadcast over the second network.

  • Patent number: 10187752
Abstract: Some embodiments relate to a user equipment device (UE), and associated methods for enabling the UE to estimate velocity of the UE based on cellular parameters. In some embodiments, a first velocity of a UE may be estimated based on a first set of parameters associated with one or more cellular based metrics. Doppler measurements may be performed in response to the first velocity exceeding a velocity threshold for at least a time period. In some embodiments, performing (or conducting) the Doppler measurements may be triggered by (e.g., in response to) the first velocity exceeding the velocity threshold for at least the first time period and receiving an indication from a motion processor of the UE that the UE is in a non-static state. In addition, a second velocity of the UE may be estimated based on the first set of parameters and the Doppler measurements.

  • Patent number: 10182392
Abstract: This disclosure relates to broadcast information block assistance for a wireless device. The wireless device may obtain a first plurality of broadcast information blocks from a first base station. The wireless device may receive a second plurality of broadcast information blocks associated with the first base station from a source other than the first base station. The wireless device may determine if the second plurality of broadcast information blocks match the first plurality of broadcast information blocks based on version information specified in the first plurality of broadcast information blocks. When the broadcast information blocks match, the wireless device may use the first and second pluralities of broadcast information blocks to perform communication with the first base station without obtaining the second plurality of information blocks from the first base station.

  • Patent number: 10136306
Abstract: Generating and using a device-type specific preferred public land mobile network (PLMN) list for roaming PLMN selection. Wireless devices sharing one or more common characteristics may be tasked with collecting roaming PLMN selection data. That data may be collected and used to generate a preferred PLMN list specific to wireless devices sharing those common characteristics. The preferred PLMN list may be distributed to wireless devices sharing those common characteristics, which may then use it in conjunction with roaming PLMN selection.

  • Patent number: 9973942
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for modifying network management for hybrid operation. In one embodiment, the networks include an LTE network and a CDMA 1× network, and a mobile device can place CDMA 1× voice calls while registered with the LTE network. However, since the mobile device cannot simultaneously measure information for the LTE network while connected to the CDMA 1× networks, the mobile device modifies measurements and behaviors reported to the LTE network. In one implementation, the mobile device accounts for the time switched away from the LTE network in one or more subsequent reports thereto.
