  • Patent number: 9892454
Abstract: An image of a check may be presented for payment in a banking system in place of the physical paper check. The check to be deposited can be collected from a depositor using a scanner. A web site, accessed through a depositor's web browser, can be used to drive the process of collecting the check, but in some contexts (e.g., in less popular computing environments, such as those that do not run the most popular operating systems), it is economically infeasible to obtain the certificates that would be used to allow a program executing in the web browser to control the scanner. Thus, a depositor can be instructed to capture and upload images of the check in the form of files, where the image files are then presented for payment through a banking system.

  • Patent number: 9894002
Abstract: Techniques are described for applying double experimental (EXP) quality of service (QoS) markings to Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) packets. According to the techniques, an edge router of an MPLS network is configured to map a Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) marking for customer traffic to at least two EXP fields of at least two different labels included in a MPLS packet encapsulating the customer traffic. In this way, the edge router may map the full DSCP marking across the first and second EXP fields to provide full resolution QoS for the customer traffic over the MPLS network. The techniques also include a core router of an MPLS network configured to identify a QoS profile for a received MPLS packet based on a combination of a first EXP field of a first label and a second EXP field of a second label included in the MPLS packet.

  • Patent number: 9892153
Abstract: Techniques are described that determine occurrences of lost write by comparing version identifiers of corresponding replica data blocks and checkpoints of data files that include the data blocks. A method determines lost writes that may have occurred among a first set of data blocks and a second set of data blocks. Each data block in the first set of data blocks corresponds to a respective data block in the second set that is a version of data blocks in the first set. The data blocks in the first set and the second set are associated with version identifiers. The second set of data blocks is associated with a second checkpoint for which any version of a data block in the second set associated a version identifier below the second checkpoint has been acknowledged to a database server as having been written to persistent storage.

  • Publication number: 20180032374
Abstract: The time required to launch an application may be reduced by increasing the performance of the system upon receiving an input indicative of a request to launch an application and decreasing the performance of the system upon receiving a notification that the Application has successfully launched. On Android® platforms, a PowerHAL wrapper layer may be created to generate an APP_LAUNCHER_START token upon receipt of the request to launch an application and an APP_LAUNCHER_COMPLETE token when the application has successfully launched. These tokens may be passed to a Generic Kernel Interface layer that increases system performance upon receipt of the APP_LAUNCHER_START token and reduced system performance upon receipt of the APP_LAUNCHER_COMPLETE token. A safety timer may be used to return the system to a lower performance state in the event the application fails to launch.

  • Patent number: 9882875
Abstract: An approach for regional firewall clustering for optimal state-sharing of different sites in a virtualized/networked (e.g., cloud) computing environment is provided. In a typical embodiment, each firewall in a given region is informed of its peer firewalls via a registration process with a centralized server. Each firewall opens up an Internet protocol (IP)-based communication channel to each of its peers in the region to share state table information. This allows for asymmetrical firewall flows through the network and allows routing protocols to ascertain the best path to a given destination without having to take firewall placement into consideration.

  • Publication number: 20180026422
Abstract: Bulk direct transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) may have an increased interlayer separation of at least 0.5, 1, or 3 angstroms more than its bulk value. The TMDC may be a bulk direct band gap molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) or a bulk direct band gap tungsten diselenide (WSe2). Oxygen may be between the interlayers. A device may include the TMDC, such as an optoelectronic device, such as an LED, solid state laser, a photodetector, a solar cell, a FET, a thermoelectric generator, or a thermoelectric cooler. A method of making bulk direct transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) with increased interlayer separation may include exposing bulk direct TMDC to a remote (aka downstream) oxygen plasma. The plasma exposure may cause an increase in the photoluminescence efficiency of the TMDC, more charge neutral doping, or longer photo-excited carrier lifetimes, as compared to the TMDC without the plasma exposure.

  • Publication number: 20180026889
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a switch in a network of interconnected switches. The switch includes a storage device, a hardware management apparatus, and a layer-2 management apparatus. The storage device stores a forwarding table, which includes an entry comprising a MAC address and an egress port for the MAC address. The hardware management apparatus determines whether a destination MAC address of a frame is present in a hardware table in memory of the switch. The layer-2 management apparatus, in response to a determination that the destination MAC address is not present in the hardware table, looks up a first entry comprising the destination MAC address in the forwarding table, and creates a second entry comprising the destination MAC address in the hardware table based on the first entry.
