  • Patent number: 7491418
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a magnetic recording medium that exhibits high performance and high reliability includes forming a liquid lubricant layer capable of high coverage while retaining a film thickness of 1 nm to 2 nm. The magnetic recording medium includes an underlayer, a magnetic layer, a protective layer, and a liquid lubricant layer sequentially laminated or formed on a substrate. The liquid lubricant layer is formed by coating a liquid lubricant diluted with a solvent on the protective layer to a thickness of at least the surface roughness to form a thick film liquid lubricant layer, pressing a slide member against the surface of the liquid lubricant layer while rotating the medium to adhere the liquid lubricant onto the protective layer, and reducing the thickness of the liquid lubricant layer with a solvent that can dissolve the liquid lubricant to the medium surface.

  • Publication number: 20080318085
Abstract: A method of forming a carbon protective film is disclosed that improves electromagnetic conversion characteristics through reduction of the film thickness without any damage on a magnetic layer. Also disclosed is a magnetic recording medium that exhibits good electromagnetic conversion characteristics and corrosion resistance. The method of forming the carbon protective film uses a high frequency plasma CVD method on a disk including at least a magnetic film on a nonmagnetic substrate. A bias voltage in a range of ?200 V to zero V is applied at the beginning of discharge in a process of forming the carbon protective film, and a bias voltage in a range of ?500 V to ?200 V is applied at the end of discharge. Also disclosed is a magnetic recording medium having at least a magnetic film and a protective film on a nonmagnetic substrate, wherein the protective film is formed by the method of forming a protective film stated above according to the invention.

  • Patent number: 7399386
Abstract: A magnetic recording medium using a plastic substrate as a non-magnetic substrate includes an adhesive layer that prevents film expansion even under severe conditions. The adhesive layer has a chemical affinity to the plastic substrate and is formed on the surface of the plastic substrate, and an underlayer and subsequent layers are formed over the adhesive layer. A polymerized carbon film is used as the adhesive layer.

  • Patent number: 7297362
Abstract: A magnetic recording medium and a manufacturing method for making it are disclosed. The method facilitates preventing the lubricant deposited on the end face of the magnetic recording medium from migrating onto the major surfaces thereof. The lubricant deposited on an end face of a magnetic disk, which may migrate onto the major surfaces of the magnetic disk, is wiped off by the rotating magnetic disk with the lubricant deposited thereon, by spraying a solvent onto a wiping tape while feeding the wiping tape, and by pressing the wet wiping tape containing the solvent to the end face of the magnetic disk with a pad while the feeding of the wiping tape is discontinued. Alternatively, the lubricant deposited on the end face of a magnetic disk is solidified to deprive the lubricant of its fluidity by rotating the magnetic disk with the lubricant deposited thereon while irradiating it with ultraviolet radiation from a UV lamp through a slit opened in a shield on the lamp to the end face of the magnetic disk.

  • Patent number: 6803963
Abstract: A camera having a first part and a second part with the second part being substantially the same size as the first part. A hinge mechanism couples an end of the first part with an end of the second part such that the first part and the second part can pivot around the hinge mechanism for the first part and the second part to be folded over and aligned with each other to close. An information input/output part has at least one projecting part that is provided on and projects from the first part. An accommodation part is provided on the second part for accommodating the projecting part of the information input/output part when the first part and the second part are folded over to close such that an image of a subject can be captured by the information input/output part while accommodated into the accommodation part.
