  • Publication number: 20040042472
Abstract: To predice impending system failures, dummy messages are periodically transmitted from a surveillance computer via a message broker to a host computer that executes processes in response to electronic messages from terminals and returns an electronic message. The dummy electronic messages are time-stamped when transmitted from the surveillance computer, when received and transmitted by the message broker, and when a process is executed by the host. The surveillance computer predicts impending failures by comparing the time required while a transmitted dummy electronic message returns to the surveillance computer, a mean value of the required time, a time required while the dummy electronic message passes through the message broker, a mean value of the time for the passage, a time required for a dummy electronic message transmission between each computer and a mean value of the time for transmission to each base value.

  • Publication number: 20030202582
Abstract: An image encoder of the present invention includes an encoder unit for generating first encoded data, re-encoder unit for re-encoding the first encoded data to generate second encoded data, parameter updating unit for updating of the encoder unit when the sum of data amount of the first and second encoded data reaches a target amount, and controller for starting a re-encoding process when the sum reaches the target amount. The encoder unit encodes still unencoded image data using all encoding parameters that are updated from the parameter that has been used at the beginning of the encoding of the source image data. The image encoder thus encodes image data into data having a desired data amount on a substantial real-time basis. When the encoded data is decoded, non-uniformity in image quality of the decoded image due to different numbers of encoding and decoding operations is controlled.

  • Publication number: 20030193602
Abstract: In order to obtain a digital still camera capable of storing only a desired image from photography images, a photography image data generation unit processes an image signal from a CCD to generate high-, middle-, and low-resolution image data. While a photography timing designation button is not depressed, the middle-resolution data is monitored in D1 of a display through a buffer memory. When the photography timing designation button is depressed, high- and low-resolution data of three consecutive frames are generated and stored in M2 to M7 of the buffer memory, and low-resolution data are displayed in D2 to D4 of the display. The high-resolution data are compressed and encoded, and then stored in C1 to C3 of a main memory. When the user selects, e.g., D3 of the displayed D2 to D4 with a touch panel, the corresponding data of C2 is extracted from C1 to C3 and stored in F1 of a nonvolatile memory.

  • Patent number: 6603413
Abstract: This invention implements a variable-length code pipeline decoding process as hardware by providing additional bit processing means, reducing the load on external control, and clarifying encoded data shift means. For this purpose, in order to determine a code length and additional bit length, two different decode processes are executed, the overall process is separated into three stages, i.e., a stage for shifting out a code word of encoded data, a decode processing stage, and a symbol determination & additional bit processing stage, and these stages are executed in a pipeline manner.

  • Publication number: 20030118240
Abstract: An encoder (103) encodes image data using a first parameter Q1, and a re-encoder (107) re-encodes the encoded result of the encoder (103) using a second parameter Q2. When the encoded data size obtained by the encoder (103) exceeds a predetermined size, Q1 is replaced by Q2, and encoded data streams previously encoded by the re-encoder (107) are saved in a buffer (108) as those encoded by the encoder (103) after the parameter is changed. Upon executing a re-encoding process, the re-encoder (107) re-encodes encoded data streams previously encoded by the re-encoder (107) using a parameter that can assure a higher compression ratio than Q2.

  • Publication number: 20030110481
Abstract: A plurality of compiler directives are applied one by one to each program portion of a computer program including the program portions to be converted by the compiler directive to execute each program portion. An execution time of each program portion for each compiler directive is measured as a result of the execution. A compiler directive having a shortest execution time for each program portion is detected on the basis of the measured results. Each of the detected compiler directives is inserted into just before a relevant program portion to produce a program.
