  • Patent number: 6280847
Abstract: An intrusion resistant laminated glazing, suitable for automotive use, comprises an impact resistant ply of rigid thermoplastic polyurethane sensitive to ultra-violet radiation and, outside said ply, an ultra-violet absorbing or reflecting ply. The ultra-violet absorbing ply may be of thermoplastic polyurethane interlayer material which serves to bond the rigid thermoplastic polyurethane ply to outer glass plies. By using interlayer materials of low modulus to bond the rigid thermoplastic ply to outer glass plies, a product with good impact resistance and intrusion resistance is achieved.

  • Patent number: 6168758
Abstract: An assay device for determining the presence of specific analytes in a liquid sample comprises a container for collecting the sample liquid and a removable cap for sealing the container. The cap includes one or more test strips, such as chromatography strips, supported thereon for visually displaying the results of the assay. A reservoir attached to the underside of the cap, collects, through a passageway, a predetermined volume of liquid from the container when it is inverted thereby submerging the reservoir in the sample liquid. The liquid collected in the reservoir is transferred to the chromatography strips by a wicking system. A valve member located in the reservoir automatically swells upon absorbing a portion of the liquid in the reservoir. Such swelling causes the valve member to close the passageway to form a hermetic seal between the liquid contained within the container and the outside thereby preventing such liquid from becoming contaminated and any leakage of the contained liquid.

  • Patent number: 6034246
Abstract: There are disclosed herein 2-phenylbenzazole compounds having a 3'-substituent and a 4'-NR.sup.2 R.sup.6 substituent in the phenyl group where R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are each hydrogen or alkyl, or where the $'-NR.sup.5 R.sup.6 substituent is N-acyl (or N-benzoyl). There are also disclosed 2-phenylbenzazole compounds in the form of 4'-N sulphamate salts. Such compounds exhibit significant selective cytotoxic activity in respect of tumor cells and provide potentially useful chemotherapeutic agents for selective treatment of a range of cancers.
