    Abstract: A direct entry/exit (DEE) door exposes several cells in the cell drum when the door is open. The DEE door is provided so that several storage media can be placed in or removed from the cell drum at once, either manually or automatically. The library apparatus automatically rearranges the storage media to fill the cells nearest the drive, which reduces the time required to locate storage media in the cell drum and place them in the drive. A locking mechanism locks the DEE door when the cell drum rotates, and locks the cell drum when the DEE door is open. Each cell in the cell drum has a skew mounting preventing mechanism and inverse mounting preventing mechanism which prevent incorrect mounting of a cartridge in the cell drum.

    Abstract: In a library apparatus, a transport device for transporting a medium to a drive unit and inserting the medium into the drive unit has a function of issuing, via a SCSI bus, a command to devices connected to the SCSI bus. Upon the power-on, the initiator function issues an inquiry command to the devices connected to the SCSI bus so that the number and types of the drive units installed in the library apparatus can be recognized based on inquiry data sent by the devices. In accordance with the number and types of the drive units installed in the library apparatus recognized, the transport device is controlled to properly transport the medium to the drive unit and insert the medium into the drive unit.

    Abstract: A library apparatus for storage media such as optical disks includes a rotatable cell drum having several columns of cells for storing the storage media, a load/unload device for inserting and removing cartridges one at a time, at least one drive for reading from or writing to selected media, and an accessor which moves the storage media between the load/unload device and the cell drum, and between the cell drum and the drive. The load/unload device rotates in a collinear arrangement with the cell drum, and can rotate in unison with the cell drum, or independently of the cell drum. The collinear arrangement of the cell drum and the load/unload device reduces the overall size of the library.

    Abstract: A valve trains drive assembly for a V-type engine which includes a balancing shaft. The valve train includes a flexible transmitter between a crankshaft sprocket and one of two camshafts in the cylinder heads as well as a sprocket around the balancing shaft. Each of the camshafts that are driven directly by the crankshaft then drive the opposed camshaft within each cylinder head via a transmission. The transmissions within each cylinder head between camshafts may be located at the forward or at the rear end thereof. Both the intake camshafts, or both the exhaust camshafts, or a combination thereof may be directly driven by the crankshaft sprocket. An improved breather oil separator is positioned between the balancing shaft and an induction system.

A two-stage camshaft drive arrangement is provided for driving a pair of overhead mounted camshafts and the two stages of this drive include flexible transmitters that are disposed on opposite sides of one of the cylinders so as to provide a compact assembly. An intermediate shaft is driven by this drive arrangement and is supported at one side of the cylinder head. One of the drives is disposed between a pair of ports in this side of the cylinder head and this drive is accessible through a removable cover plate positioned between the ports.

    Abstract: A transversely disposed water cooled internal combustion engine for a motor vehicle that cooperates with a heat exchanger that is disposed transversely to the engine compartment and in parallel relationship with the engine. A cooling pump and thermostat assembly is mounted on the side of the engine between its ends and facing the heat exchanger for communicating the heat exchanger with the engine cooling jacket. Coolant is delivered first to the cylinder head and then through the cylinder head to the cylinder block cooling jacket. The coolant pump is driven off to an intermediate shaft driven by the timing mechanism for driving the camshafts of the engine.

    Abstract: A motor vehicle having a transversely positioned engine in a forwardly disposed engine compartment. The exhaust manifold is formed rearwardly of the engine and supplies exhaust gases to a catalyzer so that the engine will shield the exhaust manifold and catalyzer from cooling air flow. An intake manifold extends forwardly from the engine and engine accessories are disposed beneath the intake manifold and forwardly of the cylinders of the engine so as to shield the occupants of the vehicle from the noise of the accessories. In addition, a crushable plenum chamber extends across the front of the intake manifold and forwardly of the accessories for silencing and also to absorb impacts. The crushability of the plenum chamber causes it to slow the engine on impact for further safety protection.

    Abstract: Several embodiments of induction systems for internal combustion engines wherein a first, relatively long intake passage and a second, relatively short intake passage, serve each combustion chamber. A throttle valve arrangement is incorporated so that the shorter intake passages only serve the combustion chamber at high speed for high speed tuning. Each of the intake passages receives its charge from respective plenum chamber and there is only one air inlet device for delivering atmospheric air to one of the plenum chambers. The other plenum chamber is charged from the first plenum chamber either through a direct conduit or through the shorter intake passages.
