  • Patent number: 5644229
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of determining the spatial field distribution and/or the spatial position of a useful field source, producing said field distribution, by means of a multichannel field measuring device which comprises a plurality of spatially distributed sensors which produce measured values which contain on the one hand useful measured values stemming from the useful field source and on the other hand noise measured values stemming from at least one noise field source, correction values being formed and superposed on the measured values so that compensated measured values are obtained which are compared with similarly compensated, mathematically derived reference values which are produced by a fictitious reference field source by means of the field sensors, the reference field source being determined for which the pattern of compensated reference values corresponds best to the pattern of compensated measured values.

  • Patent number: 5633906
Abstract: In an x-ray beam computed tomography apparatus having a ring anode scanned by an electron beam for producing an x-ray beam which rotates around an examination region, measurement of the intensity distribution in the electron beam is enabled at various locations of the ring anode during operation. For this purpose, the ring anode can have at a number of locations around its circumferential direction, insulated sub-anodes with an insulating interspace therebetween, to which a measuring arrangement for measuring the charge distribution, and thus the intensity distribution, in the electron beam is connected. The charge distribution is measured when the electron beam sweeps the interspace between two sub-anodes.

  • Patent number: 5624191
Abstract: The invention is directed to a plain bearing part for a liquid metal lubricated plain bearing, the plain bearing part having a bearing surface that is in contact with a liquid metal during operation. This bearing surface is provided with a layer of a metal effective as diffusion barrier for the liquid metal and which is well wetted with the liquid metal. The layer is applied according to a PVD process.

  • Patent number: 5576549
Abstract: An electron generating assembly for an x-ray tube has a thermionic cathode and an electrode system for accelerating electrons emitted by the thermionic cathode, and an electron multiplier disposed in the electron path. In order to achieve a given electron beam density, the electron beam current emitted by the cathode can be reduced dependent on the multiplication factor of the electron multiplier, thereby extending the service life of the overall assembly. The electron multiplier can be controllable.

  • Patent number: 5548630
Abstract: According to the invention, at least one magnet element is provided for generating a guide magnetic field such that the electrons are guided at a spacing from the elongated anode. At least one kicker magnet is provided for generating a kicker magnetic field such that the electrons are steered onto the elongated anode in the region of the kicker magnetic field. The kicker magnet is implemented as a permanent magnet.

  • Patent number: 5504791
Abstract: In an electronic x-ray computed tomography apparatus that enables a scanning of approximately 360.degree., the electron beam is guided in an annularly fashioned magnet arrangement that has a U-shaped cross section. The U enables the guidance of the electron beam to the annular anode and enables the emergence of the x-radiation. The magnet arrangement is composed of a number of side-by-side U-shaped magnet elements arranged to form an annulus with a coil for excitation of the magnet element respectively arranged on the cross bar of each U. A single magnetic arrangement is thus used to generate both the electron beam guidance field and, by means of a sudden polarity reversal of a magnet element disposed at a desired deflection location, the deflection field.

  • Patent number: 4958896
Abstract: An optical multi-port element with an acousto-optical modulator (AOM) has at least two monomode optical waveguide connections, at one side thereof. The end surfaces of the waveguides disposed in the focal plane of a lens situated between the optical waveguides and the acousto-optical modulator. In order to obtain a construction which can be adjusted in a simple manner and which has low attenuation, with a small overall length, it is provided that at least one side of the AOM (1) a single lens (2,3,31) is disposed with its optical axis aligned to the transmission axis of the AOM (1), and that the optical wave-guides (4 to 6, 18 to 20 or 27,28) are disposed with their axes parallel to one another and spaced from the optical axis of the lens (2,3,31) in such a manner that parallel beams (14 to 17), leading from the lens (2,3,31) to the AOM (1), are directed to the active region of the AOM (1) at the Bragg angle to the optical axis.

  • Patent number: 4668486
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for removing organic substances from aluminate liquors of the Bayer process. The method comprises the steps of contacting the liquor with an oxygen containing gas under elevated pressure in the presence of metallic ions acting as a catalyst to oxidize the organic substances, precipitating the metallic ions jointly with aluminum hydroxide, separating the precipitate from the oxidized liquor and recycling the precipitated aluminum hydroxide containing the metallic ions into the oxidation step as a catalyst carrier.

  • Patent number: 4155304
Abstract: A device for loading an ink fountain of a printing press directly from sealed cans of ink. The device includes a base plate having a pair of vertical threaded pillars laterally spaced to define a working area adequate to accommodate cans of ink in all normally available sizes. A pressure plate flatly superimposed above the working area has captive bushings which threadedly engage the pillars, the bushings being rotated in unison for lowering the pressure plate to the base plate. An aperture is generally centered in the base plate. Thus when the base plate is seated above the fountain and a can of ink having a puncture alined with the aperture is engaged between the pressure plate and the base plate, ink is squeezed through the aperture directly into the fountain accompanied by accordion type collapse of the can into empty flattened condition.
