  • Patent number: 5726432
Abstract: A flexible circuit board is used to provide the contact elements of a chip card reader. The contact area of the contact elements is obtained by deforming the flexible circuit board into cusps, with a contacting force being applied to the cusps by a single spring element. The flexible circuit board can be folded along a line which is either transverse or parallel to the card insertion direction in order to enable engagement of contact elements with both sides of the card.

  • Patent number: 5334827
Abstract: A chip card reader comprises a contact support (2) in which are arranged read contact springs (17) and an end position switch in the form of switch contact springs (21, 22) which indicates the operating mode. The read contact-springs contact regions of a chip card (13) inserted in a read position in the chip card reader. In its operating mode in the read position of the card, the end position switch acts approximately perpendicular to the direction of insertion (20) of the card. Hence, in the read position, no component of force is produced which would act in the direction opposite to that of insertion of the card.

  • Patent number: 4976630
Abstract: A chipcard reading apparatus includes a stationary frame and a contact element support mounted within an opening in the frame for reciprocal movement between a reading position and an initial position. At least one guide path for guiding the reciprocal movement of the contact element support is provided in the frame, and at least one such guide path is provided in the contact element support. Movement of the contact element support into the reading position is initiated by pushing of the chipcard into the reader, and return of the support to the initial position is accomplished by pulling of the chipcard from the reader. The chipcard is held in the reader by a brake which contacts the chipcard when the support is in the reading position, at which time the contact elements are securely in contact with corresponding contacts on the chipcard.

  • Patent number: 4932889
Abstract: A chipcard reader includes an arrangement for guiding a contact support which is reciprocally mounted between an initial position and a reading position. The contact support carries a set of contact elements adapted to contact the contact of chip cards in the reading position. The guiding arrangement causes a lowering movement of the contact support when the contact support is moved form the initial position to the reading position.

  • Patent number: 4814593
Abstract: A contacting apparatus for a chip-card is provided. The contacting apparatus can be located for instance in an automatic teller machine or a telephone. The chip-card can be inserted into the contacting apparatus by an operator. If the chip-card is located in the contacting apparatus, the inadvertent removal of a card located in a card reading position might be undesirable. The contacting apparatus of the invention protects against such inadvertent removal of the card by including a protective collar which surrounds the end of the chip-card extending out of the contacting apparatus, or device within which the contacting apparatus is arranged, when the card is in its reading position.
