  • Publication number: 20100217949
Abstract: A partitioned NUMA machine is managed to dynamically transform its partition layout state based on NUMA considerations. The NUMA machine includes two or more NUMA nodes that are operatively interconnected by one or more internodal communication links. Each node includes one or more CPUs and associated memory circuitry. Two or more logical partitions each comprise at a CPU and memory circuit allocation on at least one NUMA node. Each partition respectively runs at least one associated data processing application. The partitions are dynamically managed at runtime to transform the distributed data processing machine from a first partition layout state to a second partition layout state that is optimized for the data processing applications according to whether a given partition will most efficiently execute within a single NUMA node or by spanning across a node boundary. The optimization is based on access latency and bandwidth in the NUMA machine.

  • Publication number: 20100216429
Abstract: To facilitate recovering lost or stolen mobile devices, methods and systems are provided that enable mobile devices to report information that can be used to locate the device and/or identify an unauthorized user. Owners can report the loss or theft of their mobile devices to a server which can transmit an anti-theft activation message. Reception of the anti-theft activation message prompts activation of a anti-theft software module may limit access to programs and data on the mobile device while allowing the normal use of the mobile device through a secondary user interface. Unbeknownst to unauthorized users, data related to the user and the device are collected and transmitted to a server. Collected data may include user biometric data and non-biometric data. User biometric data may be matched against biometric databases to identify the user. Non-biometric data may be used to help locate the mobile devices.

  • Patent number: 7782951
Abstract: A motion estimation algorithm finds the best match for a given block or macroblock so that the resulting error signal has very low energy level which is computed, for e.g., by the SAD method. The motion estimation algorithm also provides for an optional sub-pixel level estimation and an inter4v search, and allows for restricting the number of searches for a Frame-frame ME (motion estimation) using Top-Top and Bottom-Bottom field MEs. The algorithm provides for a selective early exit and enables selecting a suitable search area with N candidate points (4 to 8) for starting the search. The search is conducted progressively till a minimum error signal (low energy level signal) is reached. The candidate points for search may be in a diamond shaped configuration, and there may be a plurality of successive diamond configurations, the number of which is configurable. The invention has application in MPEG-4 and H.264 standards.

  • Publication number: 20100211762
Abstract: A system to implement a zero overhead software pipelined (SFP) loop includes a Very Long Instruction Word (VLIW) processor having an N number of execution slots. The VLIW processor executes a plurality of instructions in parallel without any limitation of an instruction buffer size. A program memory receives a Program Memory address to fetch an instruction packet. The program memory is closely coupled with the instruction buffer size to implement the zero overhead software pipelined (SFP) loop. The size of the zero overhead software pipelined (SFP) loop can exceed the instruction buffer size. A CPU control register includes a block count and an iteration count. The block count is loaded into a block counter and counts the plurality of instructions executed in the SFP loop, and the iteration count is loaded into an iteration counter and counts a number of iterations of the SFP loop based on the block count.

  • Publication number: 20100204950
Abstract: A method for testing a consumer electronics (CE) product that wirelessly receives user commands from an IR remote control includes obtaining command codes from the remote and correlating the command codes to respective functions. A tester can generate a test script designating the functions but the tester is not required to designate the command codes. In this way, the script can be executed by wirelessly transmitting to the CE product command codes corresponding to the functions designated in the script. During script execution, the CE product is queried for health indicia such as memory usage. The CE product sends the product health indicia to a test computer over a USB debug port.

  • Publication number: 20100195488
Abstract: Transmission delays are minimized when packets are transmitted from a source computer over a network to a destination computer. The source computer measures the network's available bandwidth, forms a sequence of output packets from a sequence of data packets, and transmits the output packets over the network to the destination computer, where the transmission rate is ramped up to the measured bandwidth. In conjunction with the transmission, the source computer monitors a transmission delay indicator which it computes using acknowledgement packets it receives from the destination computer. Whenever the indicator specifies that the transmission delay is increasing, the source computer reduces the transmission rate until the indicator specifies that the delay is unchanged. The source computer dynamically decides whether each output packet will be a forward error correction packet or a single data packet, where the decision is based on minimizing the expected transmission delays.
