  • Patent number: 8484162
Abstract: Content-aware systems and methods for improving de-duplication, or single instancing, in storage operations. In certain examples, backup agents on client devices parse application-specific data to identify data objects that are candidates for de-duplication. The backup agents can then insert markers or other indictors in the data that identify the location(s) of the particular data objects. Such markers can, in turn, assist a de-duplication manager to perform object-based de-duplication and increase the likelihood that like blocks within the data are identified and single instanced. In other examples, the agents can further determine if a data object of one file type can or should be single-instanced with a data object of a different file type. Such processing of data on the client side can provide for more efficient storage and back-end processing.

  • Patent number: 8435975
Abstract: The present invention relates to steroidal esters of 17-oximino-5-androsten-3-ol, of compound of general formula (A) wherein R is selected from a group consisting of arylalkyl, aryl, substituted aryl. The ester derivatives are synthesized starting from Dehydroandrosterone acetate. The compounds were tested for their antiproliferative activity and 5?-reductase inhibitory activity in comparison to Finasteride. Decreased androgen level have been found in serum of animal treated with newly synthesized compounds. These compounds have also shown better cytotoxicity in comparison to reference drug Finasteride. Thus such compounds can be useful in treatment of androgen dependent disorder of prostate alone or by synergistic effect they can decrease the size of prostate due to their antiproliferative activity.

  • Patent number: 8404313
Abstract: Provided herein is a method for the synthesis of nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) wires by depositing nanocrystalline diamond on Si nanowires using chemical vapor deposition methods. Seeding the nanowires in solutions containing nanodiamond powers, NCD wires are fabricated in typical CVD growth conditions within a very short time. NCD wires were 0.5-5 ?m in diameter, depending on the growth time, with lengths in the range of 20-100 ?m. The average elastic modulus determined by nanoindentation is 474.16±13.48 GPa. The unique mechanical properties of the NCD wire make it a potential material for active components of both electronic and electromechanical devices.

  • Publication number: 20130067065
Abstract: Techniques for monitoring presence of a remote device at Layer 2 that allow reducing power consumption without compromising the device's availability. A device that pairs with a remote wireless device may establish a Layer 3 connection, such as an IP connection, to the remote device to provide services to a user. The Layer 3 connection may be formed over a Layer 2 connection via an access point or as a peer-to-peer wireless connection between the devices. When the Layer 3 connection is not actively used to access the remote device, the Layer 3 connection and the supporting Layer 2 connection (e.g., WI-FI, WI-FI DIRECT™ or BLUETOOTH®) may be terminated and presence of the remote device may be monitored using a Layer 2 device discovery mechanism. The Layer 2 and Layer 3 connections to the device may be reestablished when use of the remote device is desired.

  • Publication number: 20130021906
Abstract: A plurality of flow network elements monitors network flows at the subscriber level for a plurality of subscribers. The flow network elements export flow records to a collector, which organizes the flow records. A policy client correlates the flow records and determines whether any network flows are violating a flow policy definition. If a flow policy definition is violated, the policy client transmits a policy action to a policy server which indicates what action to take for a given violating flow. The policy server assigns a flow policy for the subscriber corresponding with the violating flow. The assigned flow policy is then transmitted to the flow network element having that violating flow, and that flow network element installs the flow policy.
