  • Publication number: 20060045172
Abstract: A receiver (103) for receiving an Ultra Wide Band (UWB) signal comprises a receiver front end (105) coupled to symbol point correlators (107). The symbol point correlators (107) comprise a first plurality of correlators which generates correlated signal values around a first symbol decision point of a first symbol by correlating the received UWB signal with a local replica. The first plurality of correlators are time offset with respect to each other to generate first time offset correlated signal values. The time offsets are typically significantly less than the timing jitter of transmit and receive oscillators. The symbol point correlators (107) are coupled to a joint estimator (109) which determines a symbol value of the first symbol in response to the first time offset correlated signal values by joint detection of the symbol value and a time offset of the UWB signal. The invention may effectively reduce time jitter noise to a value determined by the relative time offset between the correlators.

  • Publication number: 20050163504
Abstract: Networks and networks for performance monitoring (PM) in a passive optical network, which contain at least one optical line terminator (OLT) and at least one optical network terminal (ONT), provide increased PM flexibility over traditional ONT management and control interface functionality. These networks and networks include setting a PM initialization time at the ONT, maintaining a base PM time at the ONT, zeroing an interval end time counter at the ONT and collecting a first set of PM data in PM bins for a specified PM time interval. The interval end time counter can sequentially increment after completing collection the first set of PM data. Once collection of the first set of PM data is complete and the interval end time counter has been incremented, these networks and networks can collect more sets of PM data in other PM bins for the PM time interval. Once PM data are collected, the OLT can retrieve the PM initialization time and the base PM time from the ONT, as well as the PM data from the PM bins.

  • Patent number: 6341890
Abstract: A sensor used to measure temperature or concentration of a combustible gas. The sensor includes an optical head that picks up infrared information emitted by the combustible gas. The infrared information is conveyed from the optical sensor through a diffracting device onto a strip of photodetectors. A processor receives the information garnered by the photodetectors and determines the concentration and temperature profile of the combustible gas based on a stored thermodynamic model, radiation behavior, varying the thermodynamic parameters, and comparing a calculated spectrum with the measured spectrum. The sensor additionally has elements, such as cooling devices and casing to make it suitable for use with aviation where altitude creates problems with known methods of gas temperature analysis.
