Publication number: 20020082621Abstract: The present invention relates to devices, and methods for using the devices, to create and secure a tissue fold during an endoluminal medical procedure. The devices and methods may be used for folding and securing, for example, a fundus wall onto an esophagus wall or esophageal tissue in the region of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) to reduce the diameter of the esophagus opening in that region. One aspect of the invention includes forming the tissue fold by closing a grasping arm that is pivotably connected to an overtube that has been positioned at the juncture of the fundus wall and esophagus wall. A further aspect of the invention includes tissue clips configured to be inserted and positioned through an endoluminal device.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 21, 2001Publication date: June 27, 2002Inventors: Marc O. Schurr, Kurt A.E. Geitz, Robert Sakal

Publication number: 20020067144Abstract: A lighting control interface consisting of a touch pad matrix, a housing, different faceplates having unique graphical designs, and a control circuit. The touch pad matrix has a plurality of conductive touch pads. The faceplate has a plurality of faceplate areas which are used to designate various lighting commands and each faceplate can represent a unique collection of lighting control functions. The control circuit is electrically coupled to the touch pad matrix and is programmed to support the functionality represented by a particular faceplate design by ascribing the appropriate lighting control functions to the individual touch pads. The control circuit includes an oscillator which is coupled to each touch pad in turn and a microcontroller which monitors the frequency of the oscillating circuit when connected to the various touch pads. When a user places a finger on a touch pad, the frequency of the associated oscillations decreases and this decrease in frequency is detected by the microcontroller.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 7, 2001Publication date: June 6, 2002Inventors: Marc O. Patent number: 6260232Abstract: An apparatus for cleaning a surface has a handle joined to a cleaning head operable to dispense liquid onto a surface to be cleaned, mechanically work up dirt, film and particulates from the surface into a vacuum unit. The cleaning head has a cylindrical core supporting a sleeve that rotates on a cylindrical member as the head moves relative to the surface to be cleaned. Nozzles located within the cleaning head discharge liquid into the core and sleeve. The sleeve distributes the liquid onto the surface to be cleaned. A modification of the apparatus has nozzles located adjacent the sleeve that dispenses liquid to a surface. The sleeve when subjected to vacuum picks up the liquid and dirt from the surface. A further modification has a cleaning head with an internal chamber closed with a removable base and pad. A nozzle located within the chamber discharges liquid to the pad. The liquid and dirt collected by the pad are drawn into the chamber by vacuum.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1999Date of Patent: July 17, 2001Inventors: Marc O. Nelson, Earl E. Martens

Patent number: 6152074Abstract: A multi-beam source for deposition of a material on to a substrate with enhanced deposition rate, uniformity and beam directionality. A plurality of orifices are provided in a head unit having a cavity containing a vapor of the deposition material. The cavity and the vapor contained therein are maintained at a high temperature to increase the deposition rate. The orifices are maintained at the same high temperature and act as heated collimators to produce highly directional beams for deposition of materials into high aspect ratio features. When used in jet vapor deposition techniques, an inert gas flow is introduced into the cavity and forced out thereof through the orifices as jets to transport particles of the deposition material to the substrate.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1997Date of Patent: November 28, 2000Assignee: Applied Materials, Inc.Inventors: Marc O. Patent number: 5935097Abstract: The invention relates to a suction/rinsing instrument comprising a suction channel for removing fluid and a rinsing channel for supplying rinsing fluid. The suction channel is provided for receiving an auxiliary instrument. Via a grip part of the instrument, the auxiliary instrument, for example a forceps, may be controlled. The auxiliary instrument is fixed on the suction/rinsing instrument by way of a receiver. The receiver can be traversed in the axial direction of the shank, the traversing is effected via operating means provided on or near the grip part, so that the operator, without having to let go of the grip part, may selectively, with only one hand, push forward the auxiliary instrument an thus operate or also retract the auxiliary instrument and clear the suction/rinsing channel.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1997Date of Patent: August 10, 1999Assignee: Richard Wolf GmbHInventors: Dieter Metsch, Manfred Boebel, Gerhard Fritz Buess, Marc O. Patent number: 5814056Abstract: A seal 10 comprises a bushing 11 and a thread 12, wherein the bushing 11 has a first lumen 15 and a second lumen 16. The lumina 15 and 16 extend along the entire length of the bushing 11. The thread 12 can be introduced at one end into the second lumen 16 and has a swelling 21 at the free end which prevents reintroduction and travel of the end of the thread through the second lumen 16. The thread 12 can be introduced into the first lumen 15 via its other free end and pushed through first lumen 15. Enlargements 20 are formed on the thread 12 having a size preventing introduction into the first lumen 15 without the exercise of force. The bushing 11 and the thread 12 are manufactured from a flexible material having a stable shape. When the enlargements 20 are pulled into the first lumen 15, the bushing 11 bends and seats on e.g. tissue to be ligated. When the enlargements 20 are completely pulled into the first lumen 15, the seal 10 is permanently closed.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1997Date of Patent: September 29, 1998Assignee: Willy Rusch AGInventors: Rudiger L. Patent number: 5472262Abstract: The invention relates to a double slot wire sawing machine and to a method of mining using the machine. The machine has a mobile chassis with a driving arrangement for simultaneously and independently driving two separate wire saws which each cut their own slot in the material being mined. The driving arrangement maintains one wire saw directly over the other by equalizing the tensions in the wire saws at the commencement of a cutting operation and, during cutting, by varying the respective wire saw speeds.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1994Date of Patent: December 5, 1995Inventors: Marc O.
