  • Patent number: 4423272
Abstract: A process for using hydrogen-containing gas to regenerate a zeolite catalyst comprising at least some crystalline aluminosilicate zeolitic material having pore windows formed by 8-membered rings of oxygen atoms, e.g., ZSM-34, which has been used to promote conversion of methanol and/or methyl ether to light olefins. Contact of such catalysts with hydrogen-containing gas such as hydrogen or synthesis gas at particular regeneration temperatures and pressures can restore the activity of such catalysts either in the presence or absence of organic reactants without forming potentially catalyst-damaging by-products such as water.

  • Patent number: 4391998
Abstract: Phenol is catalytically alkylated with an isopropanol or propylene alkylating agent to form high yields of an isopropylphenol product enriched in the para-isomer of isopropylphenol. Such an alkylation process is carried out under catalytic alkylation conditions including a temperature of from about 200.degree. C. to 300.degree. C. and contact with a crystalline zeolite catalyst having a silica to alumina molar ratio of at least about 12 and a constraint index of about 1 to 12.

  • Patent number: 4379027
Abstract: This invention provides a process for obtaining m-methylstyrene from a mixture with p-methylstyrene that comprises hydrogenating a mixture of p-methylstyrene and m-methylstyrene in the presence of a zeolite having a Constraint Index of about 1 to about 12, a silica to alumina mole ratio of at least about 12, and a dried crystal density of not less than about 1.6 grams per cubic centimeter, modified with at least one element of Group IA, IIA, IVB, or VB of the Periodic Chart of the Elements and a metal of Group VIII of the Periodic Chart of the Elements; thereby obtaining a mixture of m-methylstyrene and p-ethyltoluene, and removing p-ethyltoluene by distillation.

  • Patent number: 4374297
Abstract: The meta isomer content of ethyl toluene or methyl styrene isomer mixtures containing predominately meta isomer and para isomer is increased by subjecting the mixture to oxidation with an oxygen containing gas, e.g. air in the presence of a zeolite modified with a transition metal oxidation catalyst, e.g. Co or Cu ZSM-5. The para isomer is selectively oxidized and the meta isomer is easily separated from the product to give isomer mixtures containing greater than 90 percent meta from mixtures containing 60-65 percent meta and not separable by conventional means.

  • Patent number: 4371721
Abstract: A process for selective cracking of 1,4-disubstituted benzene compounds having at least one polar substituent. Mixtures containing isomers of such a compound are brought into contact with a specified type of shape selective crystalline zeolite catalyst under conditions of temperature and pressure conducive to reaction of said benzene compound, thereby selectively reacting the 1,4-disubstituted isomer in preference to the 1,2- and 1,3-disubstituted isomers of said polar benzene compound. The shape selective zeolite catalysts employed herein are crystalline zeolites characterized by a silica to alumina ratio of at least about 12 and a constraint index within the approximate range of 1 to 12.

  • Patent number: 4251676
Abstract: An improved process for selective cracking of 1,4-disubstituted aromatic compounds whereby the yield of recyclable olefin cracking product is increased. The process is carried out in the presence of a specified type of crystalline zeolite cracking catalyst (e.g. ZSM-5) and the reactor feed is admixed with ammonia or an organic amine.

  • Patent number: 4197413
Abstract: A four-step method for the selective production of the 1,3-isomer of methylphenol comprising the alkylation of toluene with propylene in the presence of a specified type of zeolite alkylation catalyst followed by the selective reaction, via a specified type of shape selective zeolite, of the 1,4-isomer of the alkylation product to leave the 1,3-isomer thereof in excess of equilibrium. Subsequent oxidation and acid catalyzed rearrangement results in desirably high yield of 3-methylphenol.
