  • Patent number: 6929481
Abstract: An interface device and method for interfacing instruments to a medical procedure simulation system serve to interface peripherals in the form of mock medical instruments to the medical procedure simulation system computer to enable simulation of medical procedures. The interface device includes a housing having a mock bodily region of interest to facilitate insertion of a mock instrument, such as an endoscope tube, into the interface device. The mock bodily region of interest may be pivotable to simulate various patient orientations. The instrument is engaged by a capture mechanism in order to measure rotational and translational motion of the instrument. An actuator is disposed within the interface device to provide force feedback to the instrument. The measured motion is provided to the computer system to reflect instrument motion on the display during the simulation. Alternatively, the interface device may be configured to accommodate instrument assemblies having a plurality of nested instruments (e.g.

  • Publication number: 20040153016
Abstract: A multi-functional brace for a joint includes a releasable locking mechanism that allows the brace to be set for static stretch of the joint in either flexion or extension, and a range of motion assembly that allows for free movement of the joint through its natural axis over a controlled range of motion when the locking mechanism is released.

  • Publication number: 20040054317
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an ergonomically improved tampon applicator having a plunger and a barrel. The barrel has four distinct sections, namely a finger grip section, a reverse taper section, a main body section, and an insertion tip section. The reverse taper section is tapered towards the fingergrip section and the main body section is tapered in an opposite direction towards the insertion tip section. A maximum diameter is formed where the reverse taper section and main body section meet on the barrel. The maximum diameter provides a sensory means to the user to alert the user when the applicator has been inserted at the proper depth in the vagina.

  • Patent number: 6665965
Abstract: A fan deck display having a case including a center wall joined between a pair of side walls. Each of the side walls has a longitudinal free edge with a plurality of undulations formed therein. A plurality of color strips are movably connected to the case. Each of the color strips has a plurality of color swatches and a free edge with a plurality of undulations formed therein. When the color strips are in a retracted position inside the case, the undulations in the color strips are aligned with the undulations in the free edges.

  • Patent number: 6406450
Abstract: A unitary boot-type ankle brace is provided having the capability of stabilizing an ankle against inversion and eversion without limiting normal plantarflexion and dorsiflexion of the ankle and while simultaneously providing focal compression of the anterior talofibular ligament. The brace is preferably constructed of a flexible material and includes a medial side portion dimensioned and configured to extend along a medial side of a user's leg and foot, and having a lateral side portion dimensioned and configured to extend along a lateral side of the leg and foot. The side portions are joined to a forwardly extending forefoot sleeve portion and to a base portion. In a primary aspect of the invention the side portions define a rear opening for insertion of the foot with a strap for selectively connecting the side portions adjacent the user's heel.

  • Patent number: 5582046
Abstract: An automotive vehicle access preventive device for use with a vehicle having a door closable against a door frame, includes a hook member adapted to engage a post on the inner surface of the door frame, and an outer module adapted to abut against an outer surface of the door. A strap is attached between the hook member and the outer module and is adapted to lie in a space between the door and the door frame. A locking bar, used in a four-door vehicle for example, includes a hook end for engaging with a rear wheel skirt of the vehicle and an opposite end connectable with the outer module. The outer module includes a roller rotatably mounted therein, with one end of the strap attached to the roller and wound thereabout, and a spring rotationally biasing the roller to wind the strap such that the strap can be tightened between the outer module and the hook member, and a restraining assembly for releasably restraining the roller to prevent loosening of the strap.
