  • Patent number: 9239143
Abstract: An aviation obstruction lighting system having a lamp mounted on the an aviation obstruction at an elevation sufficiently high to serve as a warning of the presence of the obstruction to pilots of approaching aircraft, a remote light source, and an optical waveguide connecting the lamp and the light source and conducting light from the light source to the lamp. The optical waveguide contains quartz glass fibers. The light source is mounted at an elevation to be manually accessible by a technician standing on, or on a platform less than two meters from, the ground. The lamp includes an optical waveguide end receiver, and a Fresnel lens surrounding a reflective element having a conical or frustoconical surface positioned to intercept and reflect light emanating from an optical waveguide, such that the reflected light is directed to an inner incident surface of the Fresnel lens.

  • Patent number: 9217744
Abstract: A method to dynamically image the actual translocation of molecular compounds of interest in a plant root, root system, and rhizosphere without disturbing the root or the soil. The technique makes use of radioactive isotopes as tracers to label molecules of interest and to image their distribution in the plant and/or soil. The method allows for the study and imaging of various biological and biochemical interactions in the rhizosphere of a plant, including, but not limited to, mycorrhizal associations in such regions.

  • Patent number: 8677952
Abstract: A drive train for the sleeve of a sleeve valve engine has a pair of drives imparting compound motion to the sleeve which gives improved port opening and closing. One drive uses a engine driven first gear to give eccentric motion to the sleeve by a cam and follower. The other drive uses an engine driven second gear to give a small simultaneous rotation to the sleeve by an eccentric pin during a split sleeve. One drive allows axial response without preventing rotational response from the other drive. The sleeve path allows tall narrow ports which allow the piston rings to be nearer the piston crown and this reduces emissions.

  • Patent number: 8648533
Abstract: An overmoded distributed interaction network is provided that generates high peak and average RF power amplification at high frequencies. A series of overmoded cavities are bounded by parallel or concentric grids that may be separated by metallic spacers adapted to function as a photonic bandgap circuit to suppress competing electromagnetic modes. The selected electromagnetic modes have wavelengths much shorter than the lateral dimension of the grids, allowing the beam-wave interaction to be distributed transversely for improved interaction efficiency. The grids may optionally be slotted and arranged to provide a serpentine traveling wave tube configuration.

  • Patent number: 8615738
Abstract: In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, there is provided a method for modularizing testing of a software product. The method comprises receiving user input indicating a source and a destination of test content; and linking modification of the test content at the destination to modification of the test content at the source. In further related embodiments, receiving the user input may comprise receiving input of a copy/paste gesture for the test content, or a drag/drop gesture for the test content. The linking may comprise using a globally unique identifier to identify each test step of a test document; and using the globally unique identifier as a pointer from the destination to the source of the test content. The method may also comprise rendering the test content to the user as if the test content was in-line at the destination.
