Abstract: A broadband communication channel access network comprises an Ethernet device disposed in a serving area interface. The Ethernet device serves as an Ethernet bridge for a neighborhood service area. The Ethernet device communicates with a plurality of customer premises modems in the neighborhood service area. An Ethernet switch disposed at a central office communicates with the Ethernet device via a fiber optic medium using an Internet Protocol over a second Ethernet standard. The Ethernet switch provides a packet data core network termination.

Abstract: A method for integrating presence services into a telecommunications system that includes a presence server. The method includes receiving a query, by the presence server from service logic, the query including call parameters and call information, regarding a call from a session initiator to a session terminator. The method also includes comparing, by the presence server, the call parameters and the call information with a stored presence profile established for the session terminator, the stored presence profile including preferred treatment information. The method further includes collecting usage information of the session terminator, and automatically generating the preferred treatment information, when the preferred treatment information has not been established. The method then determines a treatment of the call, by the presence server, based upon the stored presence profile and the preferred treatment information.

Abstract: A system of passively heating water using solar energy and an absorber formed from two identical halves of molded darkened glass that are fused together. The absorber is essentially a plurality of black glass struts that are sandwiched between two black glass surfaces. The struts act as baffle plates and define cells. Water is carried through the system via the thermosiphoning effect.

Abstract: A telecommunications network is enhanced with a presence component. A session initiator requests a session with a session terminator by contacting a presence server. The presence server receives the request for presence information and processes the request by comparing the session initiator's identity to preferences of the session terminator to identify a preferred treatment. The presence server returns the preferred treatment to the session initiator. The session is then initiated or not initiated based upon the preferred treatment.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for reviewing and updating a subscriber's telecommunications services using a graphical user interface via multiple data networks. A data message is received at an intelligent peripheral from the graphical user interface via at least one of the data networks. The data message indicates a subscriber's desired update to a selected service. The data message is converted into a protocol compatible with a service control point. The converted data message is identical to a data message that the intelligent peripheral would create if the subscriber had entered the desired update via an interactive voice response system. The converted data message is transmitted to the service control point, which updates the service in accordance with the subscriber's update. Thus, the service is updated substantially contemporaneously with the request. Moreover, the subscriber retains the ability to update and review service data via the interactive voice response.

Abstract: A system daemon starts through normal system startup procedures and reads its configuration file to determine which data entities (e.g., directories and files) are to be monitored. The monitoring includes a valid MD5 signature, correct permissions, ownership of the file, and an existence of the file. If any modification are made to the data entities, then the system daemon generates an alarm (intended for the administrator of the host) that an intrusion has taken place. Once an intrusion is detected, then the isolating steps or commands are issued in a real-time continuous manner to protect the host system from attack or intrusion.

Abstract: A method for deploying software in a computer system includes providing a deployment maintenance mechanism (DMM) which includes drivers for hardware. A deployment mechanism which includes an image with drivers for hardware and which identifies hardware associated with the computer, along with a native operating system, are also provided. For hardware detected by the deployment mechanism and not having an associated driver in the image, a driver from the DMM is copied into the deployment mechanism using the native operating system. The native operating system is then re-booted to deploy drivers for hardware associated with the computer.

Abstract: A method of lowering diastolic blood pressure and LDL cholesterol in a human subject. The method consists of the steps of: (a) administering to the human subject a mixture of cold-pressed botanic seed oils; (b) administering to the human subject the mixture of cold-pressed botanic seed oils and a mixture of botanic seed flours; and (c) lowering the human subject's diastolic blood pressure and LDL cholesterol. A method of measurement of the synergistic effect of cold-pressed botanic seed oils and botanic seed flours in lowering diastolic blood pressure and LDL cholesterol in a human subject. The method consists of the steps of: a) administering to the human subject a mixture of cold-pressed botanic seed oils; b) administering to the human subject a mixture of botanic seed flours; and c) measuring the human subject's diastolic blood pressure and LDL cholesterol. A composition of matter exhibiting diastolic blood pressure lowering activity and LDL cholesterol lowering activity in a human subject.

Abstract: Access is provided to network connection data for a user terminal. A query based on a request from a communications device to access the network connection data is received over a first network. The network connection data corresponding to the request is retrieved from a database based on the query. The database is populated with the network connection data and interfaces with a second network over which network connections are established with the user terminal. The network connection data retrieved from the database is forwarded for display at the communications device.

Abstract: Outgoing call log data associated with a call from a subscriber's terminal is provided by a system including a switch, which receives the call from the subscriber's terminal and launches a query in response to the call, and a service controller, which receives the query and forwards call data to an interface server in response to the query. The switch continues to process the telephone call after querying the service controller. The interface server obtains additional information from a directory database based on at least the received call data. An outgoing call log database receives and stores the call data and the additional information from the interface server as the outgoing call log data. A web server retrieves the outgoing call log data from the outgoing call log database, in response to a query from a web client, and displays the outgoing call log data at the web client.

Abstract: A method for assembling a gas turbine engine combustor is provided. The method includes providing a heat shield defined by a perimeter. The perimeter includes a radially inner edge, a radially outer edge, an axially inner edge, an axially outer edge, and an opening that extends from an upstream side of the heat shield to a downstream side of the heat shield. The method further includes coupling the heat shield to a domeplate such that the perimeter of the heat shield is positioned a distance downstream from an edge of the heat shield defining the opening. The method additionally includes coupling at least one fuel injector to the domeplate such that a portion of the fuel injector extends through the heat shield opening.

Abstract: A system and method include implementing and accessing a subscriber's telecommunications services, using a graphical user interface (GUI) via the Internet, and an interactive voice response (IVR) system via the public switched telecommunications network (PSTN). The system and method enable a subscriber to review, schedule and modify call forwarding information stored and implemented by a service control point (SCP) through a common server from any dual tone multi-frequency (DTMF) telephone and IVR system via the PSTN or any GUI and Web client via the Internet. The subscriber is able to build and edit call forwarding data, such as a scheduler and priority and rejection screening lists, by the GUI via the Internet for subsequent implementation.

Abstract: A subscriber associates a ring-tone media selection based on a media genre, author, or title to a calling number. When an incoming call is detected, a particular ring-tone media selection, based on the subscriber's association, may be streamed from a central server to the subscriber's customer premises equipment and then played. Alternatively, when an incoming call is detected, a particular ring-tone selection indicator, based on the subscriber's association, may be sent from a central server to the subscriber's customer premises equipment which then plays a pre-stored ring-tone selection media associated with the indicator.

Abstract: A composition useful as an immunostimulant and as an adjuvant to support various cancer treatment modalities is disclosed. Additionally, the use of a composition comprising seed oils and/or flours derived from the seeds and/or mixtures thereof as immunostimulants and as a daily supplements to enhance the immune system activity of subjects is also disclosed.

Abstract: This invention concerns a process for removing carbonyl-containing impurities from impure extractive distillation solvent such as a glycol, comprising: contacting the impure extractive distillation solvent with an acidic ion exchange resin. The purified extractive distillation solvent can be recycled for use as a solvent in an extractive distillation process that removes impurities from alkylene oxide. The extractive distillation solvent can be ethylene glycol monomethyl ether (EGME) used to purify propylene oxide.

Abstract: A method for operating a gas turbine engine facilitates reducing an amount of emissions from a combustor. The combustor includes a mixer assembly including a pilot mixer, a main mixer, and an annular centerbody extending therebetween. The method comprises injecting at least one of fuel and airflow into the combustor through at least one swirler positioned within the pilot mixer, and injecting fuel into the combustor through at least one swirler positioned within the main mixer, such that the fuel is directed into a combustion chamber downstream from the main mixer.

Abstract: We have discovered that exposure of a photoresist on a photomask substrate to a vacuum after the photoresist has been exposed to imaging radiation results in improved critical dimension uniformity of the developed photoresist. Exposure of the imaged photoresist to vacuum is performed for a period of time sufficient to allow pattern critical dimensions to reach equilibrium across the photoresist. The vacuum treatment process of the invention is typically performed prior to the performance of a post-exposure bake process and prior to development of the photoresist. We have also discovered that exposure of a photoresist on a photomask substrate to a vacuum after the photoresist has been developed results in an improvement in the line edge roughness of pattern openings that have been formed through the photoresist layer thickness.
