Abstract: Processes and compositions are described for the use in perfume aroma augmenting, enhancing, modifying and imparting compositions and as perfume and perfumed article aroma imparting and enhancing materials of oxyhydrocarbylnorbornanes having the structure: ##STR1## wherein X is carbonyl or carbinyl having the structures, respectively: ##STR2## and wherein at least one of the dashed lines is a carbon-carbon single bond and the other of the dashed lines is a carbon-carbon single bond or a carbon-carbon double bond. Addition of the said oxyhydrocarbylnorbornanes to consumable materials is indicated to produce in perfumes, colognes and perfumed articles, natural, sweet pine, incense, camphene-like, sweet, green, floral, fruity, dried fruity, ionone-like, orris-like and nasturtium-like aromas with dried, woody, piney, sweaty, geranic acid-like nuances.

Abstract: Processes and compositions are described for the use in foodstuff flavor and aroma, tobacco flavor and aroma and perfume and perfumed article aroma augmenting, modifying, altering and enhancing compositions and as foodstuff, chewing gum, toothpaste, medicinal product, tobacco, perfume and perfumed article aroma imparting materials of acetyl hydrindacenes and acetyl indanes and mixtures of same, said acetyl indanes and acetyl hydrindacenes having the structures: ##STR1## and existing in the liquid phase at ambient temperature and pressure.

Abstract: Process for producing compounds useful in perfumery including isochromans and acylated indane hydrocarbons with an alkylene oxide or with a lower acyl halide in the presence of a hydrocarbon or hydrocarbon mixture containing C.sub.5 and C.sub.10 alkanes at a temperature of from -20.degree. C. up to -5.degree. C. In the case of forming isochromans, the resulting alcohol is reacted, in situ, with a lower alkanol and a formaldehyde precursor at temperatures of from 20.degree. C. up to 80.degree. C.

Abstract: Described is a genus of substituted 1-acetyl-3,3-dimethylcyclohexanes having the structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is methyllyl, R.sub.2 is hydrogen and R.sub.3 is hydrogen, or wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen, R.sub.2 is methyllyl and R.sub.3 is methyllyl. The above compound is employed in combination with smoking tobacco.

Abstract: Described is a process for augmenting or enhancing the aroma or taste of a smoking tobacco comprising the step of intimately admixing an organoleptic property modifying quantity of a substituted dimethyl dihydroxy benzene or cyclohexadiene represented by the equilibrium mixture of a constituent thereof: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of acetyl having the structure: ##STR2## and nitrile having the structure:--C.tbd.N]and wherein the dashed line represents a carbon-carbon single bond or a carbon-carbon double bond with the proviso that when the dashed line represents a carbon-carbon single bond R.sub.1 is only nitrile with a material selected from the group consisting of tobacco and at least one other tobacco flavoring adjuvant; and smoking articles containing said smoking tobacco.
