  • Patent number: 8165242
Abstract: To avoid signal jamming, a method is provided for selecting a dwell channel on a receiver in a frequency hopping communication system. The method includes: measuring a noise level on channels over which a data signal is received at the receiver; selecting a dwell channel based on the estimated noise levels, where the dwell channel having the lowest noise level amongst a group of permissible channels over which to acquire a signal from a transmitter; and tuning the receiver to the selected dwell channel during a search state in which the receiver attempts to synchronize with a transmitter.

  • Patent number: 8082542
Abstract: A computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer usable program code for processing a class file. The class file is loaded onto a target device. A determination is made whether verification is enabled. Static constraints are checked in response to determining the verification is enabled. A determination is made whether subroutines are present in a set of methods within the class file. The subroutines are in-lined in response to determining that subroutines are present in the set of methods.

  • Publication number: 20110176181
Abstract: An imaging device for imaging an original allows a user to position an original on a lid of the imaging device. The document is positioned on the lid with images of the document facing the user. The imaging device including an imaging unit disposed within a housing, an imaging surface disposed in an imaging relationship with the imaging unit within the housing, the imaging unit captures an image of the original when positioned adjacent to the imaging surface. The lid is pivotably coupled to the housing for moving between a closed position and an open position. The lid includes an inner surface for supporting the original disposed on the lid, and an original retaining member attached to the lid for selectively retaining the original on the inner surface between the open position and the closed position. The inner surface of the lid positions the original adjacent to the imaging surface in the closed position and moves the original away from the imaging surface in the open position.

  • Publication number: 20100142683
Abstract: The bandwidth use for Video Relay Service (VRS) assisted calls for hearing impaired individuals is reduced by transmitting a sequence of corresponding sign identification (ID) numbers rather than a video of the signing itself. The signs may be captured by a video camera and recognized by a previously trained sign recognition algorithm, which advantageously converts the signs to sign ID numbers for transmission. Then, at the receiving end, the sequence of ID numbers may be advantageously re-converted back into signs, which may, for example, be displayed on a video screen with use of an artificially created (e.g., a “cartoon”) image comprising (at least) a pair of hands.

  • Publication number: 20100138819
Abstract: An apparatus, process, and computer program product to merge types in an object-oriented program is disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a process may include analyzing a method within an object-oriented program to identify merge candidates. These merge candidates may then be recorded in a merge candidate list. The process may further include identifying at least two code paths in the method that merge into a single code path and that operate on different types. The types in these code paths may then be merged to a nearest common superclass listed in the merge candidate list. In selected embodiments, the types may be merged to the java.lang.Object class in the event the merge candidate list is empty.

  • Patent number: 7717774
Abstract: An arrangement for the sterile, aseptic production and/or filling of pharmaceutical products contains a housing which, with the exception of an inlet and an outlet with a clearly defined cross-section, is closed in an airtight manner. Through the air inlet air is forced via a filter into the interior of the housing. The air passes out of the housing through the air outlet or channels. The size of the cross-section of the air outlet and the performance of the ventilating device are matched in such a way that within the interior of the housing there is a laminar unidirectional or combined airflow and a constant overpressure with respect to the pressure outside the housing.

  • Publication number: 20100094426
Abstract: A spinal implant of hybrid construction. The implant includes both porous and radiolucent elements. In this manner, the implant allows for substantial fusing of vertebrae while simultaneously allowing for useful follow-on evaluations through imaging. Furthermore, in spite of the potentially differing material character of the porous and radiolucent elements, they may nevertheless be coupled together in an interlocking configuration such that the implant exhibits the behavior of a single unitary device.

  • Patent number: 7653117
Abstract: An improved method is provided for decoding data in a frequency hopping communications system. The method includes: monitoring transition points between data bits in a demodulated data stream, where the data bits are transmitted to a receiver over different transmission frequencies; determining a frequency over which data bits are transmitted to the receiver; determining a reliability metric for each frequency over which data bits were received, where the reliability metric is based on transition points of data bits transmitted over a given frequency; and performing a decoding operation using the reliability metric for each frequency over which data bits were received.

  • Publication number: 20090327090
Abstract: An instance of an application hierarchy can be stored on a client computer to facilitate enforcement of software licensing by a software license component of a software protection system. The application hierarchy is a tree structure (e.g., unordered) that includes a top node, one or more product offering group(s), and, one or more selling unit(s). A computer-implemented software protection system can facilitate enforcement of software licensing on a client computer. The software protection system includes a software license component that can store and enforce software licensing rule(s). The software license component can further manipulate state data of an instance of the application hierarchy stored in a licensing data store via application program interface(s) (APIs). State data and/or property(ies) of a particular node of the instance of the application hierarchy can be accessed through the API via an assigned identifier.

  • Patent number: 7526428
Abstract: A system and method for noise cancellation with noise ramp tracking in the presence of severe or ramping acoustic noise. The system conducts an estimation of the noise level in the input signal and modifies the signal based upon this noise estimate. A windowed Fourier transform is performed upon the input speech signal and an estimation of a histogram of the frequency magnitudes of the noise level and other related parameters is generated and used to compute a spectral gain function that is applied to components of the Fourier transform of the input speech signal. The enhanced components of the Fourier transform are processed by an inverse Fourier transform in order to reconstruct a noise reduced speech signal.

  • Publication number: 20080212901
Abstract: A character based system and method for correcting low confidence characters from an OCR system facilitates operator review, editing and correction of character and field level data generated by an OCR system without the need for an application that is installed at the operator workstation. The system creates a data structure of OCR information and provides that information to an operator through an HTML interface that is rendered using HTML and JavaScript. The data structure includes an OCR confidence level for each character and/or field and the operator is prompted to review only those characters/fields that meet a predetermined threshold for the confidence level. The operator can use an input key (e.g., TAB or ENTER) to navigate to each character/field with a low confidence level and thereby correct or validate each low confidence character/field as appropriate.
