  • Patent number: 10187759
Abstract: Methods and systems for controlling group communications using a mobile device includes detecting a motion of the mobile device corresponding to a user placing the device on a surface, maintain a communication session with another mobile device while the user is detected in proximity to the first mobile device, and entering a non-active communication mode when the user is not detected in proximity to the device. The communication session may be maintained for a time-out period before entering the non-active mode. Further methods and systems include transitioning to a non-active communication mode in response to detecting a motion of the mobile device corresponding to a user placing the device on a surface.

  • Patent number: 9906645
Abstract: In an embodiment, a transmitting device transmits a real-time media stream for a real-time communication session to a set of target devices. At least one of the set of target devices detects a media reception gap in the real-time communication session, and transmits a rewind request to the transmitting device to trigger the transmitting device to generate and provide a time-delayed version of the real-time media stream that includes media lost during the media reception gap. The transmitting device generates a rewind stream based on the rewind request and transmits the rewind stream to the at least one target device.

  • Patent number: 9779288
Abstract: A method for identifying unknown third parties appearing within video call data based on generated image characteristics data. A user's computing device and a participant computing device may exchange and render video call data in which the user's computing device may display the unknown third-party. The user's computing device may generate image characteristics data based on selected imagery. The user's computing device may compare the image characteristics data to stored contact information on the user's computing device to find a match, and may transmit the image characteristics data to the participant computing device for comparison with local stored information stored. The participant computing device may transmit a report message to the user's computing device indicating whether a match is found. In an embodiment, a server may transmit the facial data to other devices for comparison. In another embodiment, the user's computing device may request contact information from participant computing devices.

  • Patent number: 9723479
Abstract: In an embodiment, an application server receives, from a given UE, data that is configured to visually represent physical user input detected at the given UE at a first level of precision. The application server determines data presentation capabilities of a target UE and/or a performance level associated with a connection between the application server and the target UE. The application server selectively transitions the received data from the first level of precision to a second level of precision based on the determination, and transmits the selectively transitioned data to the target UE for presentation. In another embodiment, the application server receives a request to adjust display settings of the target UE from the given UE responsive to detected physical user input. The application server selectively adjusts the target UE's display settings based on the received request.

  • Publication number: 20170201552
Abstract: The disclosure is directed to synchronizing media sharing in a communication group. An embodiment transmits one or more media files to one or more members of the communication group, receives, after the transmitting, a selection of one of the one or more media files, and transmits, in response to the receiving, a request to start a group call with the one or more members of the communication group or a request to acquire the floor of the group call. An embodiment receives, at a user device, one or more media files from a member of the communication group, receives, after the receiving the one or more media files, a talk spurt from the member and a reference to one of the one or more media files, and displays the one of the one or more media file during the talk spurt.

  • Patent number: 9603039
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) selectively attempts recovery of lost media for a real-time communication session. In an embodiment, the UE detects presence of a lost media packet from another UE participating in the real-time communication session that did not successfully arrive at the UE. The UE evaluates a set of recovery criteria associated with the lost media packet to attempt to dynamically select at least one external source from a plurality of external sources from which the lost media packet can potentially be recovered at different predicted reliabilities and/or response times for attempting recovery of the lost media packet based on the set of recovery criteria. The UE attempts to recover the lost media packet from the selected at least one external source based on the evaluation.

  • Publication number: 20160364397
Abstract: Systems, methods and devices process received media content to generate personalized media presentations on an end point device. Received media content may be buffered in a moving window buffer, and processed to create tokens by parsing a next content element, and, for each content element, identifying a speaker or actor, creating a text representation, and measuring perceptual properties such as pitch, timbre, volume, timing, and frame rate. The end point device may compare a segment of tokens within buffered media content to a list of replacement subject matter within a user profile to determine whether the segment matches any of the replacement subject matter, and identify substitute subject matter for the matched replacement subject matter. The end point device may create a replacement sequence by modifying the substitute subject matter using the perceptual properties of the tokens in the segment, and render a personalized media presentation including the replacement sequence.

  • Patent number: 9497599
Abstract: In an embodiment, a communication device (e.g., a user equipment (UE), a server, etc.) determines one or more current parameters associated with an operating environment of the first UE, and then excludes at least one communication mode from one or more available communication modes to produce a set of communication modes by which a second UE is recommended to contact the first UE. In another embodiment, the communication device selectively recommends communication groups to users of UEs with current operational capabilities similar to characteristics of the recommended communication groups. In another embodiment, a server determines that a threshold number or a threshold percentage of group-members of an existing communication group are friends with a set of users that do not yet belong to the existing communication group, and then recommends that the set of users join the existing communication group.

  • Patent number: 9417697
Abstract: Various embodiments include a three-dimensional (3D) translator device for translating two-dimensional (2D) visual imagery into 3D physical representations that users can feel with their fingers and thus interact with and experience physically. The 3D translator device may enable users to feel/interact with 2D images displayed on devices such as 2D touchscreen devices by translating the 2D images into a 3D touch surface coordinate data set. The 3D translator device may actuate based on the 3D touch surface coordinate data set so that the users can feel the 3D representation of the 2D images, and translating the users' touches on the 3D translator device's 3D touchpanel into touch inputs that can be processed by a 2D touchscreen device (i.e., “2D touch inputs).

  • Patent number: 9367214
Abstract: A wireless communication device that has one or more applications resident on a computer platform, a wireless communication interface, a display, and a user interface that, at least, appears on the display. The one or more applications and/or an arbiter that is resident on the computer platform may determine which user interface of the one or more applications resident on the computer platform controls the display based upon a predetermined criteria when the user interfaces compete for control of the display. In another embodiment, an application that does not comply with the determination of which application controls the display may be terminated. A method may be performed to determine which application may control a display of a plurality of displays of the wireless communication device. A method may be performed to associate user input data with applications when there is a change of control of a display.
