  • Patent number: 5930442
Abstract: Acrylic light pipe as described in Bigley et al., U.S. Pat. Nos. 5,406,641 and 5,485,541, has adequate thermal stability for many purposes. It has been found that improved thermal stability, as reflected in color formation, can be imparted by adjusting the polymerization conditions to produce the uncured core polymer of the core/clad construction with a much reduced terminal vinyl content, preferably below 0.5 vinyl groups/1000 monomer units.

  • Patent number: 5918671
Abstract: An injector for flexible tubing has endless drive conveyors on opposite sides of a pathway for the tubing. The drive conveyors include gripper blocks that work in opposing pairs along the tubing pathway. The pairs of gripper blocks are clamped to the tubing and moved along the tubing pathway to either inject the tubing into a well or withdraw the tubing from a well. The gripper blocks are clamped to the tubing by way of skates, which work in opposing pairs. The skates have rollers, with rollers contacting the gripper blocks. Each roller has two ends, which ends are received by bearings inside of mounts on the respective skate.

  • Patent number: 5916600
Abstract: A high pressure mold assembly and method for holding a sheet of material such as glass while molding a gasket or other molded portion on the sheet from a thermoplastic or other moldable material such as PVC at high pressures of at least 2000 psi. The assembly and method provides an improved holding feature which reduces the percentage of broken sheets of material and yet controls the flash or overflow of the moldable material out of the mold cavity. The mold assembly includes a first mold section and a second mold section. The first mold section includes a first seal receiving surface which receives a first resilient seal while the second mold section has a second seal receiving surface which receives a second resilient seal. The seals engage and hold the sheet therebetween and accommodate variations in the sheet. Each of the seals is adapted to press and seal against the sheet for preventing the flow of the molten material along the sheet while under high pressure of between about 2,000 psi and 5,000 psi.

  • Patent number: 5886599
Abstract: An improved circuit interrupter having a solenoid in series with the line and load terminals with an armature operable to activate a trip mechanism within the circuit breaker upon experiencing current levels indicative of short circuit conditions. The traditional solenoid coil is replaced with a free form conductor stamped in a serpentine pattern with adjacent legs deformed slightly in opposite directions to permit an electromagnetic material to be disposed therebetween. Current is directed through the conductor progressively back and forth through the serpentine pattern and creates a magnetic field in the electromagnetic material which is sufficient to activate an armature when current levels approximate short circuit conditions.

  • Patent number: 5830324
Abstract: In the continuous purification of a propylene oxide feedstock contaminated with water, methanol and acetone wherein an acetone buffer is established in the column, normal distillation conditions are maintained or restored during or after an upset by continuously monitoring predetermined distillation conditions in the acetone buffer zone, and adding additional acetone to the extractive distillation column when the monitored distillation condition deviates from a predetermined value by a predetermined amount.

  • Patent number: 5823884
Abstract: There is described a powered stage wagon comprising a chassis; rolling support structure mounted on the chassis for engagement with a surface over which the stage wagon is to move; and first drive member mounted on the chassis and in engagement with the surface. The drive member is adapted so as to be capable of being orientated in a first direction with respect to the chassis. The stage wagon also comprises second drive member mounted on the chassis and spaced from the first drive member. The second drive member is again in engagement with the surface and capable of being orientated in a second direction with respect to the chassis. Input member are provided for receiving details of a position to which the stage wagon is to move as are computing member for calculating a travel path to enable the stage wagon to move to the position. Finally control member are provided for controlling the first and second drive member so as to move the stage wagon along the travel path.

  • Patent number: 5658908
Abstract: Diarylmethylpiperazine compounds having utility as receptor-binding species, e.g., for mediating analgesia, and for combatting drug addiction, alcohol addiction, and drug overdose. The compounds may be administered orally, rectally, topically, nasally, ophthalmically, or parenterally (subcutaneously, intramuscularly, and intravenously), for veterinary and human use, and include delta receptor and mu receptor binding species.

  • Patent number: 4085045
Abstract: A process for inhibiting scale formation using a low molecular weight hydrolyzed polyacrylamide prepared by a process involving simultaneously and continuously charging separate streams of acrylamide monomer, ammonium persulfate (as catalyst) and mercaptoalkanoic acid (as chain transfer agent) to a reaction zone containing water under reflux, the rate of charging being such that the heat of polymerization is sufficient to maintain reflux in the reaction zone without exceeding the capacity of the condenser to remove the heat of reaction, and then reacting the polymer product with sufficient aqueous caustic to hydrolyze from about 60 to 90% of the amide groups in the polymer product.
