  • Publication number: 20040175267
Abstract: A method for assembling a power system is provided. The method includes coupling a first turbine and second turbine together with a coupling that extends between a first rotor of a first turbine and a second rotor of the second turbine, and such that the first turbine has fluid flow along a first flow path, and the second turbine has fluid flow along a second flow path. The method further includes fixedly coupling an outer wall to the first turbine that directs fluid flow from the first flow path towards the second flow path.

  • Patent number: 6783321
Abstract: The shafts of upstream and downstream turbines are interconnected by a coupling. A diffuser is provided in an intermediate cavity between the upstream and downstream turbines to recover kinetic energy, as well as minimize or eliminate windage and spinning losses resultant from exposure of the coupling to the flowpath along the turbines. A radial entry inlet provides a supplemental fluid admission into the intermediate cavity, the admission being turned axially and circumferentially for joining with the flow exiting the upstream turbine for combined flow to the downstream turbine.

  • Publication number: 20040003086
Abstract: A new method and framework for re-partitioning directory servers supporting user services in a site that receives access requests from users. According to the present invention, a management server transfers groups of directory objects from original directory servers to newly added directory servers without service interruption to users of the site. The directory objects are stored in categorical groups such that the directory objects in each group share an attribute. According to the present invention, certain groups in the original directory servers are identified for migration to the newly added servers based on a load-balancing scheme. In one embodiment, the identified groups are marked for migration to limit access to the directory objects therein. After successfully being migration, the groups are unmarked and access is resumed.

  • Publication number: 20030212846
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method is provided. The method of this embodiment may include controlling, at least in part, by a first device, whether a first signal line of a second device is coupled to a bus, and whether a second signal line of a third device is coupled to the bus. The method of this embodiment may also include, after the first and second signal lines are coupled to the bus, supplying from the first device to the second and third devices, via the first and second signal lines, one or more signals that, after being received by the second and third devices, may permit, at least in part, at least one of control and configuration by the first device of the second and third devices. Of course, many modifications, variations, and alternatives are possible without departing from this embodiment.

  • Patent number: 6484505
Abstract: A combustor for a turbine includes a combustor liner; a first flow sleeve surrounding the liner, the flow sleeve having a plurality of rows of cooling holes formed about a circumference of the flow sleeve; and a transition piece connected to the combustor liner and the flow sleeve and adapted to carry hot combustion gases to a stage of the turbines. The transition piece is surrounded by a second flow sleeve which directs cooling air to the transition piece. One of the plurality of rows of cooling holes in the first flow sleeve is located adjacent the transition piece, and cooling conduits are mounted in the cooling holes of at least the first of the plurality of rows of cooling holes to direct impingement cooling air against the surface of the liner while diverting crossflow cooling air around the impingement cooling air.

  • Publication number: 20020147561
Abstract: A system and method for providing an intelligent wire testing capability for complex hardware systems. The system is comprised of a software application with a relational database interfacing with an automatic test equipment module. The relational database contains all of a system's architecture information plus all of the text and parametric information associated with the design. During a system test, the subject invention uses the wiring/system architecture as disclosed in the relational database together with an automatically generated test program to identify faults in a unit under test. Using the architecture knowledge, the subject invention is capable of automatically generating a wire harness schematic for printout or display on a CRT. The architecture knowledge also allows a technician to quickly distinguish between a broken wire and an unused pin in a connector. After the test, the observed values are stored in a testing results file for later review and trend analysis.

The seat frame assembly has a torso section, a seat section and a leg section and is adjustable between a seated position and a supine position. Adjustment of the seat frame assembly between the seated position and the supine position is measurable by an acute angle &agr; between the torso section and a vertical reference. The torso section is adapted to articulate with respect to the seat section, measurable by an acute angle &bgr;. The leg section is adapted to articulate with respect to the seat section, measurable by an acute angle &thgr; between the leg section and the seat section.

  • Patent number: 6283740
Abstract: A rotary lobe pump is provided with an improved sealing mechanism between the rotor and outside diameter of the shaft upon which the rotor is mounted. An adapter is provided for the drive shaft which enables the drive shaft to be easily coupled to a variety of drive mechanisms. The adapter can be replaced with an alternative adapter suited to fit alternative drive mechanisms. An improved means for mounting the timing gears on the drive and driven shafts is provided which enables the timing gears to be easily adjusted during assembly to improve the rate at which rotary lobe pumps can be assembled. An improved shaft configuration is provided with a thicker boss section providing additional structural support at the timing gear. The shaft may be cast molded. An improved seal assembly is also provided whereby the seal is frictionally accommodated inside a sleevelike seal housing which, in turn, is frictionally accommodated inside the rotor.

  • Patent number: 6187530
Abstract: An aquatic autosampler device for frequent collection of discrete samples of microorganisms at various locations and depths. The aquatic autosampler device moves a filter disk within a filter housing from a filter carousel into a filter housing holder. The filter housing holder, slidably mounted on a linear shuttle, moves the filter housing into a process position, where a syringe draws fluid in through a valve manifold and through the filter disk to collect samples on the filter disk. Reagents may then be passed over the filter disk to enable image-based identification and quantification of the cells on the filter disk. An imaging system on the autosampler may capture a fluorescent image of the microorganisms on the filter disk and store the image in a control computer. The filter housing may then be returned to the filter carousel for storage and further lab processing.
