  • Publication number: 20130100977
Abstract: A laser device is disclosed that provides at least an ultraviolet laser beam and preferably both an ultraviolet laser beam and a visible laser beam. The laser device includes a semiconductor laser device (e.g. a laser diode) to generate visible laser light which is coupled into a frequency doubling crystal taking the form of a single crystal thin film frequency-doubling waveguide structure. The single crystal thin film frequency-doubling waveguide converts a portion of the visible light emitted by the laser diode into ultraviolet light. Both visible and ultraviolet laser light is emitted from the waveguide. As an example, the single crystal thin film frequency-doubling frequency doubling waveguide includes a frequency doubling crystal region composed of ?-BaB2O4 (?-BBO), a cladding region composed of materials that are transparent or nearly transparent at the wavelength of the ultraviolet laser light beam and a supporting substrate composed of any material.

  • Publication number: 20080058830
Abstract: A system for easily transferring an intraocular lens (IOL) from a lens case to an inserter, and then into a patient's eye. The lens case has a transfer mechanism therein which retains the IOL until engagement with the inserter. The transfer mechanism may include jaws having a closed configuration for retaining the IOL and an open configuration for releasing the IOL. Engagement of the inserter with the lens case automatically opens the jaws and transfers the IOL to the inserter. The IOL is transferred into a load chamber of a nosepiece rotatably coupled to a handpiece. After transfer of the IOL, the nosepiece is rotated from a load position to a delivery position. The IOL may have an optic and a haptic coupled to the optic, and the lens case may be capable of configuring the haptic as desired to facilitate its transfer into an inserter and/or into the eye. For instance, the lens case may fold one or both of the haptics over the optic.

  • Publication number: 20050279182
Abstract: An air particle sample cassette enables concurrent or sequential collection of air particle samples. The dual air particle sample cassette has top and bottom covers that fit together to provide an airtight seal between them. The airtight seal may be provided by adhesive or otherwise. However, a close fit between the two also aids in obtaining an airtight seal. The top cover has tapering inlets circumscribed by channels. The inlets taper to create increased air speed at the exit slit of the inlets. The inlets have rounded tops for greater collection of air and the circumscribing channels provide means by which plastic caps or otherwise may be used to protect the inlets from collecting air until desired. The sample plate or collecting slide is fitted to the bottom of the top cover and obstructs the direct flow of air to the exit port. The collecting slide is protected from contact with other cassette elements by spacers or sidewalls which generally leave the corners of the bottom cover open.

  • Patent number: 5902310
Abstract: An implantable marking device is provided which is designed to percutaneously deliver permanent markers to desired tissue locations within a patient's body, even if the desired locations are laterally disposed relative to the distal end of the delivery device, as is the case for conduit or cavity walls. This provides several advantages to the physician in diagnosis and management of tissue abnormalities, such as a means of localization of a tissue abnormality for follow-up surgical treatment, and a means of tissue abnormality site identification for purposes of ongoing diagnostic follow-up. In one preferred construction, a radiographic clip is configured in the form of a surgical staple. A disposable tissue marker applier, which comprises a flexible tube, pull wire, and squeeze handle, is employed to advance and deploy the clip to a desired tissue location. Either a flexible or a rigid introducer is also provided for providing access to the site to be marked.

  • Patent number: 5810806
Abstract: This invention provides an inventive tissue sampling probe which offers many advantages over probes available in the prior art. Unexpectedly superior results are obtained in connection with the retrieval of intact tissue specimens, because of a unique combination of cutting features, including, for example, the employment of an electrosurgical cutting element and a vacuum assist in one preferred embodiment. A particularly important feature of the invention is the ability to manipulate the electrosurgical cutting element to cleanly sever the distal end of the tissue specimen. In certain embodiments, this is accomplished without any cutting impact on surrounding tissue. The versatility of the invention permits its use in many applications, including, for example, breast biopsies, laparoscopic surgery, and lymphadenectomy procedures.
