  • Publication number: 20080109413
Abstract: A method and device are disclosed for an associative and approximate, analog or digital scanning of databases that allows for the asynchronous accessing of data from a mass storage medium. The invention includes providing dedicated analog and digital circuitry and decision logic at the mass storage medium level for determining a key identifying the data of interest, continuously comparing the key to a signal generated from a reading of the data from the mass storage medium with an approximate or exact matching circuit to determine a pattern match, determining a correlation value between the key and the data as it is read in a continuous fashion, and determining a match based upon a preselected threshold value for the correlation value. The pattern matching technique eliminates any need to compare data based on its intrinsic structure or value, and instead is based on an analog or digital pattern. The key and data may be either analog or digital.

  • Publication number: 20060255424
Abstract: As robust hinge post structure for use with torsional hinged devices such as micromirrors and method of manufacturing is disclosed. The fabrication process uses a protective layer such as BARC on the bottom of the aperture used to form the hinge post structure to protect an oxide layer during an etching step. The oxide layer, in turn protects the metal layer at the bottom of the aperture. Therefore, the metal layer, the oxide layer, and the protective layer prevent the erosion and/or pitting of the bottom electrode during a cleaning process, and provide additional support to the structure.

  • Publication number: 20050275500
Abstract: A thermal switch selectively couples a heat source to a pair of heat sinks. The thermal switch includes a shunt that is thermally coupled to the heat source. The shunt has a pair of posts. End portions of the posts are at least partially radially surrounded by respective cups. The cups in turn are thermally coupled to respective of the heat sinks. The cups are made of a material with a larger coefficient of thermal expansion than the material of the posts. Activation of one of the heat sinks causes the cup corresponding to that heat sink to contract, bringing it into contact with the corresponding post of the shunt. This opens a heat path through the switch from the heat source to the activated heat sink. Thermal isolation of the second cup is facilitated by an axial isolator of high thermal impedance, facilitating isolation of the inactive heat sink.

  • Patent number: 6062163
Abstract: An apparatus for producing a plasma suitable for semiconductor processing at pressures in the low millitorr range. The apparatus includes a vacuum chamber with a dielectric window, a generally planar coil disposed adjacent the window outside the chamber and coupled to an appropriate power source, and a plasma initiator disposed within the chamber. Once the plasma is initiated, the planar coil sustains the plasma by inductive power coupling. In one embodiment the plasma initiator is a secondary electrode disposed within the chamber and coupled to a second RF power source. In an alternative embodiment both the secondary electrode and a target pedestal are coupled to the secondary RF power source through a power splitter. In an alternative embodiment, the plasma initiator is used to ionize a portion of the process gas and provide a plasma that may then inductively couple with the planar coil.

  • Patent number: 5956336
Abstract: A circuit and method is provided for implementing a content addressable memory circuit (100) in which an output word is produced which corresponds to the content of a reference word containing an ATM header. According to a first aspect, a binary search logic circuit (104) binarily searches the memory array (101) to find a match word whose content is equal to that of the reference word. Output signals indicate either that a match has been found or that the binary searching of the memory array (101) should continue at addresses either above or below the location address of the match word. According to a second aspect, the content addressable memory circuit (100) performs a concurrent search of switching identifiers, virtual circuit identifiers and virtual path identifiers, to determine if a virtual path connection or virtual circuit connection exists for an ATM header.
