  • Patent number: 7840482
Abstract: A high speed technique for options pricing in the financial industry is disclosed that can provide both high throughput and low latency. A parallel/pipelined architecture is disclosed for computing an implied volatility in connection with an option. Parallel/pipelined architectures are also disclosed for computing an option's theoretical fair price. Preferably these parallel/pipelined architectures are deployed in hardware, and more preferably reconfigurable logic such as Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) to accelerate the options pricing operations relative to conventional software-based options pricing operations.

  • Patent number: 7823632
Abstract: A methodology and apparatus for cutting shape(s) or profile(s) through well tubular(s), or for completely circumferentially severing through multiple tubulars, including all tubing, pipe, casing, liners, cement, other material encountered in tubular annuli. This rigless apparatus utilizes a computer-controlled, downhole robotic three-axis rotary mill to effectively generate a shape(s) or profile(s) through, or to completely sever in a 360 degree horizontal plane wells with multiple, nested strings of tubulars whether the tubulars are concentrically aligned or eccentrically aligned. This is useful for well abandonment and decommissioning where complete severance is necessitated and explosives are prohibited, or in situations requiring a precise window or other shape to be cut through a single tubular or plurality of tubulars.

  • Patent number: 7779067
Abstract: In a multimedia call center (MMCC) operating through an operating system, a client-specific self-help wizard is provided for active clients and updated periodically with information related to client transaction history with the MMCC. A connected client is presented by the wizard with a selective media function through which the client may a select a media type for interaction and help, and the MMCC will then re-contact the client through the selected media. The client, for example, may select IP or COST telephony, and the MMCC will place a call to the client to a number or IP address listed for the client, and interactivity will then be through an interactive voice response unit. Help information specific to a client is updated in the client's wizard periodically according to ongoing transaction history with the MMCC. The wizard may also monitor client activity with the wizard and make reports available to various persons.

  • Patent number: 7660424
Abstract: Using an M:N variable matrix, M audio input signals, each associated with a direction, are translated to N audio output signals, each associated with a direction, wherein N is larger than M, M is two or more and N is a positive integer equal to three or more. The variable matrix is controlled in response to measures of: (1) the relative levels of the input signals, and (2) the cross-correlation of the input signals so that a soundfield generated by the output signals has a compact sound image in the nominal ongoing primary direction of the input signals when the input signals are highly correlated, the image spreading from compact to broad as the correlation decreases and progressively splitting into multiple compact sound images, each in a direction associated with an input signal, as the correlation continues to decrease to highly uncorrelated.

  • Publication number: 20090299756
Abstract: A hybrid stereophonic/monophonic audio signal encoding comprises generating, in response to a discrete two-channel stereophonic audio signal, an encoded hybrid stereophonic/monophonic audio signal in which the audio signal is a discrete two-channel audio signal below a frequency fm and a single-channel monophonic audio signal above the frequency fm, generating, in response to the discrete two-channel stereophonic audio signal, spatial parameter information characterizing the discrete two-channel stereophonic audio signal above the frequency fm, and combining the hybrid stereophonic/monophonic audio signal with said spatial parameter information in such a manner that the resulting signal is decodable both by a decoder configured to decode a discrete two-channel stereophonic audio signal encoded with the same encoding as applied to the hybrid stereophonic/monophonic audio signal and by a decoder configured to decode, with the use of the spatial parameter information, the hybrid stereophonic/monophonic audio sig

  • Publication number: 20080109413
Abstract: A method and device are disclosed for an associative and approximate, analog or digital scanning of databases that allows for the asynchronous accessing of data from a mass storage medium. The invention includes providing dedicated analog and digital circuitry and decision logic at the mass storage medium level for determining a key identifying the data of interest, continuously comparing the key to a signal generated from a reading of the data from the mass storage medium with an approximate or exact matching circuit to determine a pattern match, determining a correlation value between the key and the data as it is read in a continuous fashion, and determining a match based upon a preselected threshold value for the correlation value. The pattern matching technique eliminates any need to compare data based on its intrinsic structure or value, and instead is based on an analog or digital pattern. The key and data may be either analog or digital.

  • Patent number: 7262900
Abstract: As robust hinge post structure for use with torsional hinged devices such as micromirrors and method of manufacturing is disclosed. The fabrication process uses a protective layer such as BARC on the bottom of the aperture used to form the hinge post structure to protect an oxide layer during an etching step. The oxide layer, in turn protects the metal layer at the bottom of the aperture. Therefore, the metal layer, the oxide layer, and the protective layer prevent the erosion and/or pitting of the bottom electrode during a cleaning process, and provide additional support to the structure.
