  • Patent number: 4098682
Abstract: A desulfurization catalyst which demonstrates superior desulfurization activity and which contains an inorganic oxide carrier material, a Group IVB metal component and a Group VIII metal component. The catalyst is prepared by (a) extruding at least 10% of the Group VIII metal component with the inorganic oxide carrier material, and (b) impregnating the resulting extrudate with a sufficient quantity of Group VIB and Group VIII metal components to yield a finished catalyst containing the requisite metallic component content.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 18, 1977
Date of Patent: July 4, 1978
    Assignee: UOP Inc.
    Inventor: Mark J. O'Hara
  • Patent number: 4083771
Abstract: A hydrorefining process is disclosed. A petroleum hydrocarbon fraction is treated at hydrorefining conditions in contact with a catalyst comprising a Group VIII metal and a Group VIB metal component impregnated on a refractory inorganic oxide. A more active catalyst results from the use of an impregnating solution comprising an anionic complex of a Group VIB and a Group VIII metal.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4046714
Abstract: An improved method of preparing a catalyst comprising a Group VIII metal and a Group VIB metal component impregnated on a refractory inorganic oxide support or carrier material, said catalyst being especially useful in the hydrorefining of petroleum hydrocarbon fractions and particularly effective for the conversion of sulfurous components contained therein. A more active catalyst results from the use of an impregnating solution comprising an anionic complex of a Group VIB and a Group VIII metal.

  • Patent number: 4028273
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a catalytic composite of a Group VIII metal, a Group VIB metal and a refractory inorganic oxide-boron phosphate carrier material. A refractory inorganic oxide hydrogel is perecipitated from an aqueous solution, impregnated with an aqueous solution of boric and phosphoric acids, admixed with preformed, refractory inorganic oxide-boron phosphate fines, and the mixture recovered by filtration. The mixture is then dried, and further impregnated with a metal of Group VIII and a metal of Group VIB. The resulting composite is then dried and calcined.

  • Patent number: 4005007
Abstract: An improved method of preparing a catalyst comprising a Group VI-B and a Group VIII metal impregnated on a refractory inorganic oxide carrier material, said catalyst being particularly useful in the hydrorefining of residual oils. The carrier material is further impregnated with a nitrogen-containing organic compound, the compound being subsequently thermally decomposed to deposit nitrogen on the carrier material. The nitrogen-containing compound is characterized by a basic dissociation constant of less than about 1 .times. 10.sup..sup.-13 at 25.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 3998721
Abstract: An improved method of preparing a catalyst comprising a Group VIII metal and a Group VIB metal impregnated on a refractory inorganic oxide support or carrier material, said catalyst being especially useful in the hydrorefining of residual oils, and particularly effective for the conversion of sulfurous components contained therein. A more active catalyst results from the order of metals impregnation on the support or carrier material, and from the nature of the impregnating solution.
