  • Patent number: 10541809
Abstract: There is provided an integrated-optic transmitter for transmitting light pulses to a further optical apparatus for generating a quantum cryptographic key according to at least one quantum cryptography technique. There is also provided an integrated-optic receiver for generating a quantum cryptographic key from light pulses received from a further optical apparatus. The transmitter apparatus splits incoming light into two paths to temporally separate the split light pulses and controls the output intensity of each split pulse as well as the phase of at least one of the split pulses. The receiver apparatus receives first and second light pulses and controls the output intensity of each said pulse between a first and a second optical detector. The light input into the second detector passes through an integrated element that controls the amount of light output into two paths that recombine before at least a portion is output to the second detector.

  • Patent number: 10534130
Abstract: A Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) filter comprising one or more passive compensation structures are described. The passive compensation structures yield MZI filters that are intrinsically tolerant to perturbations in waveguide dimensions and/or other ambient conditions. The use of n+1 waveguide widths can mitigate n different sources of perturbation to the filter. The use of at least three different waveguide widths for each Mach-Zehnder waveguide can alleviate sensitivity of filter performance to random width or temperature variations. A tolerance compensation portion is positioned between a first coupler section and a second coupler section, wherein the tolerance compensation portion includes a first compensation section having a second width, a second compensation section having a third width and a third compensation section having a fourth width, wherein the fourth width is greater than the third width and the third width is greater than the second width.

  • Patent number: 10227598
Abstract: Identification of new enhancer sequence has significant utility in the plant functional genomics. The sugarcane bacilliform badnavirus (SCBV) transcriptional enhancer has been identified. This enhancer can be used to increase the rate of transcription from gene promoters and in activation tagging experiments. A ten-fold increase in transcription was observed when a 4× array of the SCBV enhancer was placed upstream of a truncated form of the maize alcohol dehydrogenase minimal promoter. Methods of using the SCBV transcriptional enhancer are described, as are chimeric transcription regulatory regions, constructs, cells, tissues, and organisms that comprise one or more copies of the enhancer.

  • Patent number: 10171684
Abstract: A method for detecting electrostatic discharge (ESD) events in an imaging device includes scanning a target placed in a scanner to create a scanned image of the target. The scanned image has a plurality of scan lines with each scan line having a number of pixels or samples. For each of the plurality of scan lines, a determination is whether or not the number of pixels or samples of the scan line matches a respective predetermined number of pixels or samples, the predetermined number of pixels or samples being based upon a resolution setting of the scanner. Upon determining that the number of pixels or samples of the scan line does not match the predetermined number of pixels or samples, a count value is incremented. The count value is used as a healthcheck data to indicate at least one ESD event has occurred in the imaging device.
