  • Patent number: 7076396
Abstract: A method and a device for acquiring performance quantities of a product, in particular until its technical failure, and for determining the remaining service life of the product are described. The determination of the remaining service life of the product, acquisition of service lives of the products and determination of service life threshold values are performed on the basis of performance quantities subdivided into classes (classified). Weighting factors are determined first and then these weighting factors are used to determine weighted, cumulative service lives and service life threshold values. The reliability of products is monitored in mass production.

  • Patent number: 7019623
Abstract: A steering wheel for a vehicle which includes sensors. The sensors are distributed into numerous segments and thus enable the position of an operator's hands on the steering wheel to be detected with high local resolution. The signals supplied by the sensors are analyzed and makes it possible to detect the position of the hands, and the maximum possible steering angle that can be set at the steering wheel without changing the grip. Control actions and control signals can be derived from this information by means of a control.

  • Patent number: 7010423
Abstract: A method and a control unit for operating an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle are provided, in particular for controlling/regulating the internal combustion engine as a function of an air-mass sensor signal from a first air-mass sensor. A first auxiliary signal, which is obtained arithmetically from an additional sensory system or from models of the internal combustion engine, allows a plausibility control or the substitution of the air-mass sensor signal in the case of signal interference of the air-mass sensor signal, and thereby ensures that the internal combustion engine is able to continue working in the optimal operating point.

  • Patent number: 6859695
Abstract: A method and a device for event interpretation and output of operating instructions in motor vehicles are described. The inventive idea is to bundle the wealth of information regarding errors and/or defects resulting from the multitude of sensors and the complexity of modern vehicles, optionally linking it with empirical findings and outputting operating instructions to the driver, so that the instructions do not make excessive technical demands of the driver but instead are adapted to his/her instantaneous situation. The core of the inventive concept is to use an electronic database which contains the technical information including the error codes of devices of the automotive sensor and electronic systems for analysis of event information which informs the driver comprehensively and yet comprehensibly regarding the problems that have occurred. Likewise the database may be the target of an inquiry initiated by the driver.

  • Patent number: 6766232
Abstract: A method for the detection of errors in a motor vehicle, performance characteristics and information for characterizing the performance characteristics being recorded in a motor vehicle over a specific period of time. To make possible a predictive detection of errors in a motor vehicle at a high degree of reliability, a method is proposed having the following steps: From the performance characteristics recorded before the occurrence of a specific error in the motor vehicle, a performance characteristics model is generated, which is assigned to the error. The performance characteristics model is described in an appropriate form (rules and/or mathematical functions), and the currently recorded performance characteristics are compared during the operation of the motor vehicle with the descriptions of the performance characteristics models characterizing the errors.

  • Patent number: 6748305
Abstract: A device and a method for storing and/or analyzing data in a memory in a motor vehicle is described, the data being transmitted in the vehicle over a data bus to which are or can be connected components such as vehicle systems, sensors, actuators and other vehicle components. The memory is designed as a central memory medium for the components connected to the data bus, and it is also connected to the data bus in the vehicle. The data is stored permanently in the memory medium for the entire service life of the vehicle. In addition, the data is interpreted by analyzing arrangements connectable to the memory medium, preferably in such a manner that a measure of the usage and/or wear of the vehicle and/or its components is obtained.
