  • Patent number: 9926903
Abstract: A method for determining a future rotational speed of a rotating drive shaft of an internal combustion engine is described, in particular while the internal combustion engine coasts after being turned off, the future rotational speed being calculated from a course of measured rotational speeds. To predict a future rotational speed of the drive shaft of the internal combustion engine as accurately as possible, instantaneous rotational speeds measured at different rotational positions of drive shaft are evaluated.

  • Patent number: 9494122
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for meshing a starter pinion (19) of a starting device (16) into a ring gear (13) of an internal combustion engine (10). The internal combustion engine (10) has a driveshaft (22), and the starting device (16) has a starter motor (25), said driveshaft (22) having a variable rotational speed (n). The internal combustion engine (10) is switched off in a method step (S1), and the starter pinion (19), which is not being rotationally driven by the starter motor (25), is then advanced in the direction of the ring gear (13) by a toe-in actuator (28) by means of a toe-in force (FV) in a method step (S2) until the starter pinion contacts the ring gear. A meshing force (FE) is then exerted onto the starter pinion (19) in a controlled manner in an additional method step (S3) in order to mesh the starter pinion (19) into a tooth gap (34) of the ring gear (13).

  • Patent number: 9170176
Abstract: A method for detecting rotational speeds (n) of an internal combustion engine having a signal wheel having marks (M1 through M7) for signaling on a crankshaft of the internal combustion engine is described. The marks (M1 through M7) on the signal wheel are detected with the aid of a sensor and evaluated by a detection and evaluation device. To implement high-precision detection of a rotational speed, the rotational speeds (n) are evaluated using a sector section of approximately 6° to 35° to increase the accuracy on the basis of a reduced sector section of the signal wheel.

  • Patent number: 8825346
Abstract: In a method for controlling a start/stop operation of an internal combustion engine in a motor vehicle, the controller activates a starting device which has a starter motor and a meshing device for the purpose of starting the internal combustion engine and of executing a start/stop operation, the rotational speed and position of a crankshaft of the internal combustion engine being detected with the aid of a detector device.
