  • Patent number: 4601388
Abstract: There is provided an apparatus for aligning flat articles such as envelop flat bags or the blanks therefor or the like. According to the main feature of the apparatus, an article-supporting slideway is provided and lateral toothed belts run around reversing sprockets and are provided with article-engaging entraining members, the rotational axes of the reversing sprockets being perpendicular to the plane of the slideway.

  • Patent number: 4583729
Abstract: A device for controlling the vacuum at a rotating vacuum cylinder in a high peed paper converting machine by means of a control head having a conical shape which is supported coaxially therewith and which is secured against rotation. The conically shaped control head is telescoped into a complementarily shaped opening in the vacuum cylinder with an exact fit. The two cooperating control surfaces lie on the outer cone surface of the control head and on the inner cone surface of the vacuum cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4564418
Abstract: A noise suppression device is provided for a vacuum cylinder having a conl head which is used in high speed paper converting machines and which includes a sound attenuator which is integral with the vacuum cylinder. The sound attenuator incorporates a plurality of attenuation chambers within the vacuum cylinder which are interconnected by tubes arranged in an offset manner to overlap each other in the projection. Air passages are also provided in the side of the vacuum cylinder opposite the control head to connect the last attenuation chamber to the atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 4542895
Abstract: According to the invention, separator plates bevelled at the front edges provided on the rotating feed segments of a sheet feeder, more particularly for envelope machines, which finally separate from the pile of blanks a blank for feeding, the front edge of the bottom flap of the blank having been separated from the pile by means of a tongue and vacuum device. The separator plates align the blank in the direction of conveyance, smooth it out, and then feed it to the extractor roller and engagement edge of the rotating feed segments.

  • Patent number: 4526501
Abstract: There is provided a sheet pile replenishment apparatus in the form of a cined unstacking and restacking device for lifting a sub-pile of sheets from a supply pile of sheets, conveying and depositing the sub-pile on a pile of sheets on a feed pile plate of a sheet feeder of a processing machine, such as an envelope or bag machine. The apparatus includes a separating roller, disposed at an adjustable angle, which separates the sub-pile from the supply pile of sheets, a clamp for engaging the sub-pile, a table of comb-like construction for conveying the sub-pile, vibrating aligning pins for exactly aligning the sub-pile, and means for depositing the sub-pile in an exact position on the pile of sheets ready for feeding by the sheet feeder to the processing machine.

  • Patent number: 4320893
Abstract: There is disclosed transport apparatus for transporting flexible sheet-like articles, especially envelopes. The apparatus comprises a transport cylinder, which is mounted on a shaft rotatably journalled in a frame and which comprises two cylindrical body portions. The body portions are each provided with axial suction ducts with outlet openings communicating with the circumferential surfaces of the body portions. The body portions are provided at their mutually remote ends with bores into which project bushes, which are mounted to the frame to be secure against rotation. A suction device is connected in a certain rotational position of the cylinder, through passages which are provided in the bushes and open at the circumferential surfaces of the bushes, with the suction ducts of the cylinder body portions. In another rotational position of the cylinder, the suction ducts of the body portions are ventilated by the bushes. The apparatus is capable of high operating speeds with minimum noise production.
