Abstract: A hand-held buffing device having a body with at least two portions, a handle portion and a head portion is provided. The handle portion is preferably ergonomically shaped and/or oriented for convenient, comfortable handling and may preferably have a control interface for allowing an operator to control the operation of buffing device. The head portion may preferably accommodate at least a portion of a drive assembly and operatively connect with one or more buffing pads or disks that are driven by the drive assembly to move in relatively rapid, reciprocating movements in short strokes in simultaneously different directions for hair removal, massaging and exfoliating with efficiency. The buffing device enables relatively lightweight motors and components to be used.

Abstract: There is provided a controller for a fabric grooming device to provide optimal user convenience, operational ease, and efficiency in use. The controller has at least an interface, a microprocessor, a sound generator, one or more sensors, a heater, and a timer. The controller may also have any of a variety of other features, such as, for example, a vibrator. The controller can cooperate with any of a variety of grooming devices in a space-efficient manner, and offers the user a safe, effective and efficient way for interactive operative control of such devices.

Abstract: There is provided a hair setting assembly having a housing with one or more heating elements. The elements cooperate with one or more heatable hair rollers. The hair setting assembly also has one or more ion and/or ozone emitters for emitting ions and/or ozone. Further, the hair setting assembly has a housing with a lid portion, and a base portion for selectively covering the heatable hair rollers and the one or more ion and/or ozone emitters, and a support connectable to the housing so that the housing can be tilted about an axis in at least one direction through a specified angle while sitting on a surface.

Abstract: There is provided a musical instrument having a tubular body and a handle. The tubular body has an annular wall that defines a sound chamber. The handle is designed to shelter the hand of the player or serve as a mounting for use with a mounting cradle. The thickness of the tubular wall and the dimensions of the sound chamber may be modified to produce various sound qualities and pitches. Preferably, the musical instrument produces the characteristic sound of the traditional “clave.

Abstract: A percussion instrument includes a sound chamber having a cavity therein with at least one opening thereinto, support means secured to the chamber within the cavity, a resilient, elongated member disposed within the cavity of the chamber, one end of which is free-standing and the other end of which is coupled to the support means, a knocker secured to the free end of the resilient member, and a vibratory, elongated rod which is secured to the sound chamber. The rod includes a handgrip along one portion of its length for imparting sustained vibrations to the resilient member and, in turn, the knocker, so that the knocker will strike the walls of the sound chamber to thereby produce a percussion sound. The instrument is particularly suitable for simulating the sound of a jawbone percussion instrument, used for Latin American music.

Abstract: Disclosed are combinations of amino phenols, wherein said phenols contain a substantially saturated hydrocarbon substituent of at least 10 aliphatic carbon atoms, and one or more detergent/dispersants selected from the group consisting of (I) neutral or basic metal salts of an organic sulfur acid, phenol or carboxylic acid; (II) hydrocarbylsubstituted amines wherein the hydrocarbyl substituent is substantially aliphatic and contains at least 12 carbon atoms; (III) acylated nitrogen-containing compounds having a substituent of at least 10 aliphatic carbon atoms; and (IV) nitrogen-containing condensates of a phenol, aldehyde and amino compound. Fuels and lubricants containing such combinations as additives are particularly useful in two-cycle (two-stroke) engines.

Abstract: Hydroxy aromatic compositions containing (a) a hydroxyl group bonded directly to a carbon of an aromatic nucleus, (b) a hydrocarbon-based substituent of at least about 50 aliphatic carbon atoms bonded directly to a carbon atom of an aromatic nucleus, (c) at least one methylol or lower hydrocarbyl substituted methylol substituent bonded directly to a carbon atom of an aromatic nucleus, and not having any alkylene linkages between carbon atoms of two aromatic nuclei are useful as additives for normally liquid fuels and lubricating oils. These hydroxy aromatic compositions are also useful as intermediates for preparing other additives for fuels and lubricants. Typical hydroxy aromatic compositions of the present invention are formed by reaction of formaldehyde with an alkenyl- or alkyl-substituted phenol wherein the alkyl or alkenyl substituent contains an average of about 50 carbon atoms.

Abstract: Compositions useful as lubricant and fuel dispersants are prepared by reacting a hydroxyaromatic compound containing an aliphatic or alicyclic substituent which has at least about 6 carbon atoms with an aldehyde in the presence of an alkaline reagent and at a temperature up to about 125.degree.C., substantially neutralizing the resulting intermediate at a temperature up to about 150.degree.C., and then reacting with a primary or secondary amino compound.
