  • Patent number: 6921809
Abstract: The present invention related to biotechnology and genetic engineering, particularly the expression of proteins of viral origin in microorganisms through their fusion by applying recombinant DNA technology to bacterial peptides. The present invention provides an effcient process for the expression in Escherichia coli of heterlogous proteins as fusion peptides with a view to obtaining them with a high degree of purity, in commercially useful amounts, and in an appropriate form for their inclusion in vaccine preparations. What is essentially used is a stabilizing sequence derived from the first 47 amino acids of the antigen P64k of Neisseria meningitides B:4:P1.15. In particular, use is made of a recombinant plasmid containing said sequence, under the control of the tryptophane promoter of E. coli and of the terminator of the transcription of the phage T4, including restrictions sites which provide for the cloning in phase of DNA fragments coding for polypeptides of interest.

  • Publication number: 20040134435
Abstract: A dispenser guard for use in a bird feeder including a seed storage and a seed dispenser having a seed reservoir connected from the seed storage for receiving seed from the seed storage and allowing access to the seed. An upper guard plate extends across the seed reservoir and includes a first plurality of upper access openings and a lower guard plate is located between the upper guard plate and the seed reservoir and extends across the seed reservoir and includes a second plurality of lower access openings. The dimensions of the upper access openings and of the lower access openings and the distance between the upper guard plate and the lower guard plate are selected to prevent a squirrel from removing seed from the reservoir.

  • Publication number: 20040123808
Abstract: A bird feeder comprising an elongate bird feed container open a top end and having a base closing a bottom end thereof. A hanging member for hanging the bird feeder and a removable cover with both an open position, in which the cover is spaced from the top end to facilitate supplying bird feed, and a closed position in which the cover covers the top end. A cage structure for encasing the bird feed container. The bird feed container is a material with a plurality of access openings formed therein which are sized to retain bird feed but also facilitate dispensing and feeding of the bird feed therethrough when accessed by a desired bird. An outer surface of the material of the bird feed container is spaced sufficiently away from an inwardly facing surface of a sidewall of the cage structure to allow only selected or small birds to access and retrieve bird feed while preventing undesired larger non-clingy birds and animals from accessing bird feed contained within the bird feed container.

  • Publication number: 20040031443
Abstract: A bird feeder having an elongate bird feed container open at opposed ends thereof. The bird feed container defines a longitudinal axis A and has a plurality of feeding ports provided in a sidewall of the bird feed container to facilitate eating by a bird. A removable cover covers the top end of the bird feed container, and the cover has both an open position, in which the cover is spaced from the top end to facilitate supplying bird feed into the bird feed container, and a closed position, in which the cover engages with and covers the top end of the bird feed container. A handle member connected to the bird feed container for hanging the bird feeder. A removable base engages with the bottom end of the bird feed container. The removable base has a closed position, for sealing the open bottom end of the bird feed container, and an open position in which the base is removed from the bird feed container to facilitate cleaning of the bird feed container and the base.
