  • Publication number: 20170249273
Abstract: A method, apparatus and system for changing to which remote device a local device is in communication via a communication medium, communicates with a matrix switch forming part of the system by interruption of the communication medium by the local device. Upon receipt of a unit of information via interruption of the communication medium, the matrix switch causes the local device to be in communication with another remote device other than the remote device that it was previously in communication. In one embodiment, the switching is to a next available remote device of a plurality of remote devices while in another embodiment, the matrix switch switches the local device to a switch configuration device for further communication therewith via the communication medium, thereby allowing the local device to select which other remote device it desires to be in communication.

  • Patent number: 9508889
Abstract: A method is presented for forming a Ge containing layer on a Si substrate. The method includes providing a crystalline Si substrate having a surface that has a crystallographic orientation, heating the Si substrate in a vacuum environment, exposing the Si substrate to a surfactant that is suitable for growth of the Ge containing layer on the crystalline Si using surfactant mediation, and thereafter growing the Ge containing layer on the surface of the heated Si substrate using a suitable sputtering technique. The conditions of the growth of the Ge containing layer are selected such that a thin Ge containing layer is formed on the surface of the Si substrate. The thin Ge containing layer has a surface that has crystallographic properties suitable for epitaxial growth of a layer of a further material on the surface of the thin Ge containing layer.

  • Patent number: 9460906
Abstract: An ion guide or ion trap is disclosed comprising a segmented linear ion guide or ion trap. Ions are confined radially within the ion guide or ion trap by the application of an AC or RF voltage to the electrodes. A static potential well is maintained along at least a portion of the axial length of the ion guide or ion trap. A time varying homogeneous electric field is applied along at least a portion of the axial length of the ion guide or ion trap. The combination of the static axial potential well and the time varying axial homogeneous electric field causes ions to be ejected from the ion guide or ion trap in a substantially non-resonant manner.

  • Patent number: 9129787
Abstract: A mass spectrometer is disclosed comprising a segmented linear ion guide or ion trap. Ions are confined radially within the ion guide or ion trap by the application of an AC or RF voltage to the electrodes forming the ion guide or ion trap. A quadratic DC potential is applied along the axial length of the ion guide or ion trap in order to cause trapped ions to perform simple harmonic motion within the ion guide or ion trap. The frequency of the oscillations of the ions is detected using one or more inductive detectors. The mass to charge ratio of the ions can then be determined from the determined frequency of oscillations.

  • Patent number: 9001898
Abstract: A video data extension system includes a transmitter and a receiver for transmitting and receiving encoded serial data. Transmitter is configured to receive one SDI 3G video stream at 2.97 Gb/s, two HD-SDI video streams at 1.485 Gb/s, two SD-SDI at 270 Mb/s, or one HD-SDI at 1.485 Gb/s and one SD-SDI at 270 Mb/s. Received data is segmented into packets to form an extended video stream for transmission at 3.75 Gb/s. To each packet, idle and header are provided. Data such as RS422 data may be included in the extended video stream. Where the received data includes data from two HD streams, received data are segmented into two groups of data packets for arranging into extended video stream in an alternate manner. Upon receiving the extended video stream, receiver uses idles to align data and header information to separate the HD streams.

  • Patent number: 8779354
Abstract: A mass spectrometer is disclosed comprising an Electron Transfer Dissociation cell. Positive analyte ions are fragmented into fragment ions upon colliding with singly charged negative reagent ions with the cell. The cell comprises a plurality of ring electrodes which form a spherical trapping volume. Ions experience negligible RF heating over the majority of the trapping volume which enables the kinetic energy of the analyte and reagent ions to be reduced to just above thermal temperatures. An Electron Transfer Dissociation cell having an enhanced sensitivity is thereby provided. Fragment ions created within the cell may be cooled and may be transmitted onwardly to an orthogonal acceleration Time of Flight mass analyser enabling a significant improvement in the resolution of the mass analyser to be obtained.
