Patent number: 5913438Abstract: The invention provides a light weight self-standing blow molded two liter carbonated beverage bottle having a unique petaloid base made from a monobase preform. The base comprises a petaloid design which has a plurality of at least three (preferably five) feet. The monobase preform has a thick reinforcing ring forming portion which remains unstretched during blowing. The reinforcing ring forming portion is thicker than both the sidewall forming portion and the gate area forming portion of the preform thereby resulting in increased stretching in both those areas. The reinforcing ring extends circumferentially around the base. By providing such a reinforcing ring, a bottle having a bigger foot radius and/or containing less material use can be realized. The resulting bottle has less stress whitening and greater stress crack resistance while at the same time using less material and/or having a larger radius than prior bottles.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1995Date of Patent: June 22, 1999Assignee: DTL Monofoot Limited PartnershipInventors: Martin H. Patent number: 5582905Abstract: A non-woven mat of fibrous thermoplastic insulation is produced by melt blowing recycled polyethylene teraphthalate (PET). The PET is melted, pressurized and extruded from an extrusion head into substantially continuous fibers that are subjected to turbulent high velocity air that attenuates the fibers. The fibers are then collected on a collection device building up a non-woven mat. The collection device is spaced from the extrusion device forming a flight path for the fibers that is sufficiently long that the fibers split apart under the force of the high velocity air, fibrillating into a plurality of very fine fibrils of under 15 microns in diameter. These fibrils are analogous to goose down and greatly enhance the loft and R value of the mat.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1995Date of Patent: December 10, 1996Inventors: Martin H. Beck, George F. Patent number: 4952268Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method and uses a thin, yet strong plastic film as the intermediate layer for the waterproofing material and the film has a plurality of perforations therein. The film is highly resistant to crack propagation, and acts as a barrier to crack propagation between adjacent asphalt layers, thus providing superior protection from the elements. The asphalt layers are interconnected with each other through the perforations in the polyester support layer. Because of the strength of the polyester film, only a very thin layer of polyester is necessary and this results in a substantial cost savings. As an alternative to coating, it is possible to extrude or laminate the asphalt onto the PET film. Also a layer of asphalt may be applied only to one side of said film and extruded through the perforations with heads on the columns so formed to attach the asphalt to the film.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1989Date of Patent: August 28, 1990Assignee: Devtech Labs, Inc.Inventors: Martin H. Patent number: 4786455Abstract: This relates to an apparatus for injection molding preforms for beverage bottles wherein a minimum cycle time is involved. Cores over which thermoplastic material is injection molded to form preforms for use in the blow molding of bottles are provided in sets and carried by a rotary turret so that as soon as the injection molded thermoplastic material has sufficiently set to permit its transfer with its associated core out of an injection mold cavity, the apparatus may be actuated to remove first injection molded preforms and thereafter immediately present a new set of cores to the injection mold cavities. This provides ample time for the cooling of the preforms so that when removed from the cores they will not be unduly deformed. In accordance with the feasible use of the apparatus, plural preforms, on the order of twenty-four and greater, may be formed with a cycle time on the order of 10-12 seconds.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1981Date of Patent: November 22, 1988Assignee: The Continental Group, Inc.Inventors: Suppayan M.
