  • Publication number: 20190262579
Abstract: A urinary catheter is disclosed, comprising a tubular shaft extending between an insertable end and a flared rearward part with a discharge end, and with an internal lumen extending between at least one drainage opening at or in the vicinity of the insertable end and an outlet opening at the discharge end. The rearward part comprises an outward protrusion formed at the discharge end around the outlet opening. Further, the tubular shaft is an extruded tube and the rearward part is monolithically and integrally connected with the tubular shaft. A method and apparatus for producing such a catheter is also disclosed, involving forming of the flared rearward part at an end of the tubular shaft and forming of the outward protrusion at the end of the flared rearward part simultaneously with the forming of the flared rearward part.

  • Publication number: 20180320002
Abstract: An antibacterial device is disclosed that includes a substrate and an antibacterial coating or antibacterial surface being provided on at least a part of the substrate's surface. The antibacterial coating or surface includes Angstrom scale flakes, where the Angstrom scale flakes are arranged in a standing position on the substrate surface and are attached to the substrate surface via edge sides thereof. The Angstrom scale flakes can, for example, be graphene flakes, or graphite flakes having a thickness of a few atom layers. It has been found that such standing flakes are efficient in killing prokaryotic cells but do not harm eukaryotic cells.

  • Publication number: 20180104447
Abstract: An insertion aid for catheter manipulation is disclosed. The insertion aid can be used for urinary catheters, such as hydrophilic urinary catheters for intermittent use. The insertion aid includes first and second plate-like arms arranged overlying each other and with a separation distance there between. The insertion aid also includes a resilient hinge connecting adjacent marginal edges of the plate-like arms together. At least one of the plate-like arms includes a groove on its clamping inner surface for holding a catheter shaft. The groove extends at least partly in the same direction as, and essentially parallel to, the resilient hinge, and is arranged at a distance both from the resilient hinge and from the marginal edge of the plate-like arm. Corresponding catheter set and catheter assembly are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20180001055
Abstract: A urinary catheter and a method of its manufacture are disclosed. The urinary catheter comprises a tubular shaft extending between an insertion end and a discharge end, the tubular shaft being formed of at least two materials having different properties. The materials are arranged substantially separated from each other in distinct zones, wherein at least one of the width and thickness of said zones varies over the length of the tubular shaft, to form two or more uniform sections of the tubular shaft having various relative amounts of said materials, and wherein at least one transition between two such uniform sections is formed by at least one transition section providing a gradual transition between the uniform sections. The catheter can e.g. be produced by intermittent extrusion.

  • Patent number: 8827984
Abstract: A urinary catheter is disclosed comprising an elongate shaft with an insertion end, a handle connected to the elongate shaft at a distance from the aid insertion end, and a discharge end extending past the handle in a direction opposite the insertion end. The elongate shaft is provided with at least one discharge channel having an elongate opening extending along the elongate shaft, wherein the discharge channel(s), including the elongate opening, further extends at least partly into the discharge end.
