  • Publication number: 20110288752
Abstract: An engine control system, controller, and method for estimating a stopped engine crank angle of an internal combustion engine. Typical crank sensors do not output a reliable crank signal when the engine is about to stop, and do not indicate crank direction which is necessary to determine if engine bounce-back occurs. A crank sensor signal is analyzed as the engine coasts to a stop so that a coast-down model can be adjusted to accurately estimate the stopped engine crank angle. A bounce-back model is also used to estimate an engine bounce-back angle and so make further corrections to the estimated stopped engine crank angle.

  • Patent number: 7865291
Abstract: A system and method for controlling an engine involves providing a model for volumetric efficiency. The model recognizes that volumetric efficiency (VE) has stronger dependency on intake pressure than on exhaust pressure. The model allows tuning of the relative importance of intake pressure to exhaust pressure, specifically, by reducing the relative importance of the exhaust pressure to intake pressure in the composite volumetric efficiency load variable. The model provides for a calculation where the exhaust pressure term of the engine pressure ratio is de-rated through the use of an exponent less than one.

  • Patent number: 7803606
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for producing flavor-active terpenes from terpene hydrocarbons. According to said method, a lyophilized mycel which is first rehydrated and is then mixed with the substrate is used preferably in a submerged culture in the framework of selective biotransformation with the aid of microorganisms. The inventive method, which can be carried out especially in an enantioselective, stereoselective, and/or regioselective manner, makes it possible to obtain terpenoid alcohols, epoxides, aldehydes, ketones, polyalcohols, carbonyls, and carbonyl alcohols with the aid of fusarium, pleutorus, penicillium, and chaetomium species, the obtained substances being isolated particularly from cellular components. Said method should be carried out above all in a stirred tank, surface reactor, or fixed bed reactor while preferably taking place in a two-phase system with reduced carbon source moieties.
