  • Publication number: 20140304242
Abstract: A storage system 103 carries out first and second de-duplication processes in response to receiving a write request from a client. First, a determination is made as to whether a write target data item overlaps with any of the stored data items of a part of a stored data item group, which is a user data item group stored in a storage device 209, and if so, the write target data item is prevented from being stored in the storage device. Second, a determination is made as to whether a target stored data item, which is not finished being evaluated as to whether it overlaps with the stored data item in the first de-duplication process, overlaps with another stored data item, and if so, the target stored data item or the same data item overlapping with the target stored data item is deleted from the storage device 209.

Abstract: Provided are a content transfer system, a content transfer method, and a home server capable of backing up all backup target contents without having to transfer all backup target contents. This content transfer system includes a home storage and an online storage. The home storage transfers identifying information of a backup target content to the online storage and requests the online storage to determine the existence of a content that is identical to the backup target content upon requesting the online storage to back up the backup target content, transfers metadata to the online storage when an identical content exists in the online storage, and transfers the backup target content to the online storage in all other cases.

  • Publication number: 20140129524
Abstract: A NAS device providing a snapshot function for executing CoW processing in multiple successive block units is provided, wherein upon restoring a file saved in a file system sharing from a snapshot, the speed for restoring files is enhanced by restoring only data blocks that have been changed within the data blocks constituting a file, to thereby reduce the amount of data being restored and cut down CoW processing. Upon restoring a file stored in file system sharing from a snapshot file, data blocks storing different data between the restore source file and the restore destination file are specified based on a differential map table and a differential block table, and only the specified data blocks are restored. Further, upon restoring data from a file other than the snapshot, the data blocks constituting the restore source file and the restore destination file are compared, and only the data blocks storing different data are restored.

  • Patent number: 8700573
Abstract: The present invention relates to a migration of a file from a path denotative NAS server to an ID denotative NAS server. In a file management device a migration-use path denotative NAS access section obtains a file deposit location from the path denotative NAS server, selects a migration target file based on the deposit location, and sends a read request with the deposit location of the migration target file to the path denotative NAS server, so as to obtain the migration target file. A migration-use denotative NAS access section generates a write request with the migration target file, sends it to the ID denotative NAS servers, and writes the file therein. In addition, the migration-use ID denotative NAS access section registers a GUID received from the ID denotative NAS servers in a file name/GUID management table, together with the file name of the migration target file.

  • Patent number: 8683172
Abstract: A computer system includes a server system and a storage system. The server system is configured to manage a plurality of virtual machines, each of which has a virtual machine interface. The storage system is configured to manage a plurality of virtual storage systems, each of which has a virtual storage interface. A first virtual machine is related to a first virtual storage system of the plurality of virtual storage systems. If the first virtual machine issues a first command to the first virtual storage system through a first virtual machine interface of the first virtual machine, the server system adds information of a first identifier, which is assigned to a first virtual storage interface of the first virtual storage system related to the first virtual machine, to the first command, and sends the first command to the storage system.

  • Patent number: 8645655
Abstract: The present invention provides a technique of suitably configuring a decision criterion for determining a transfer destination layer in rearrangement processing according to a task type and operation status and preventing performance degradation caused by arranging task data requiring a high response to a lower layer. At least one computing device (or management computing device or each host computing device) of a plurality of computing devices configures rearrangement reference information showing whether an access characteristic related to a task executed on a plurality of host computing devices is considered as a decision criterion for transfer destination determination in rearrangement processing of transferring data between actual storage areas of physical storage devices of different response performance.
