  • Patent number: 8369200
Abstract: An optical recording medium and an optical information device that improve the quality of a servo signal and a reproduction signal. In the optical recording medium, when shape-wise thicknesses tr1, tr2, tr3, and tr4 of a cover layer (42), a first intermediate layer (43), a second intermediate layer (44), and a third intermediate layer (45) are respectively converted into thicknesses t1, t2, t3, and t4 of the respective corresponding layers each having a predetermined refractive index “no”, a defocus amount with respect to a layer having a refractive index nr? and a thickness tr? (satisfying: 1???n (where ? is a positive integer and n is an integer of 4 or more)), and a defocus amount with respect to a layer having the refractive index “no” and a thickness t? (satisfying: 1???n (where ? is a positive integer and n is an integer of 4 or more)) are equal to each other.

  • Patent number: 8302119
Abstract: The recording/reproducing quality of a multilayer optical information recording medium deteriorate not only due to interference from other layers caused by light converging on other information layers but also due to stray light converging on the surface of a protective layer and stray light that does not converge on other information layers but rather returns to an optical head through the same optical path as the reproducing signal. The thickness composition of intermediate layers (106, 107, and 108) and the protective layer (109) in a four-layer optical information recording medium are set so as to eliminate the influence of interference caused by stray light from other layers reflected up to three times.

  • Patent number: 8264944
Abstract: An optical recording medium includes a cover layer, a plurality of recording surfaces, and a plurality of intermediate layers. The thicknesses of the layers are specifically determined and set at values which suppress a back focus problem. Because the optical recording medium suppresses back focus, the recording and reproducing of information using the optical recording medium is not obstructed.

  • Patent number: 7929395
Abstract: A multilayer information storage medium according to the present invention includes: a substrate; at least three information storage layers, which are stacked one upon the other on the substrate; a plurality of transparent layers, each of which is arranged between its associated adjacent ones of the information storage layers; and a transparent coating layer. At least two of the transparent layers have mutually different thicknesses. If a laser beam with a wavelength of 400 nm to 410 nm is incident perpendicularly on the medium through the transparent coating layer, two of the information storage layers that sandwich the thinnest one of the transparent layers have a higher returning light intensity and/or a higher degree of modulation than the other information storage layers.

  • Patent number: 7854819
Abstract: A method for producing a multilayer information recording medium the method including: holding a substrate; feeding a resin onto the substrate; and removing the excess resin by moving a squeegee throughout the entire surface of the substrate. The substrate may have a resin-coated region, onto which the resin is to be applied, and a non-resin-coated region, onto which the resin is not to be applied. In this case, the resin-coated region has a smaller contact angle with the resin than the non-resin-coated region. The method for producing a multilayer information recording medium may further include, prior to feeding a resin onto the substrate, subjecting a specified area of the substrate to an oil repellent treatment to increase the contact angle of the specified area with the resin.
