  • Patent number: 8627646
Abstract: A catalyst deterioration diagnostic device for a multiple-cylinder internal combustion engine including a first cylinder group having exhaust system that is equipped with an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) device with an EGR catalyst and a second cylinder group having exhaust system that is not equipped with the EGR device. The catalyst deterioration diagnostic device implements active air-fuel ratio control to diagnose deterioration of a main catalyst. During the active air-fuel ratio control, the catalyst deterioration diagnostic device oscillates only a target air-fuel ratio of the second cylinder group, without oscillating a target air-fuel ratio of the first cylinder group, in a case where the EGR device is stopped.

  • Patent number: 8523625
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a spark plug wherein a tip having a burr-free surface is more reliably welded to a ground electrode, to thereby realize an excellent joint strength. The spark plug includes a center electrode, a ground electrode, and a ground-electrode-side tip joined to the ground electrode through its joining surface. The method of manufacturing includes a tip forming step and a tip joining step of resistance-welding the ground-electrode-side tip to the ground electrode. A wire rod having a reference surface is formed, and the wire rod is cut by moving a cutting blade from one edge of the reference surface with respect to the width direction thereof toward the other edge of the reference surface with respect to the width direction, thereby obtaining the ground-electrode-side tip. • Patent number: 8469010
Abstract: A mass flow rate of NOx which is recirculated to an intake passage with a blowby gas is obtained with high precision, and based on the result, a state of an internal combustion engine can be accurately diagnosed. A control device for an internal combustion engine of the present invention measures a NOx concentration in an intake passage downstream from a position where the blowby gas is recirculated, and similarly measures an oxygen concentration in the intake passage downstream from the aforesaid position. Further, the control device measures a mass flow rate of fresh air taken into the intake passage. The control device calculates a mass flow rate of the blowby gas recirculated to the intake passage from the oxygen concentration and the mass flow rate of the fresh air. Next, the control device calculates a mass flow rate of all gases in the intake passage from the mass flow rate of the fresh air and the mass flow rate of the blowby gas.

  • Publication number: 20130019846
Abstract: A control apparatus for an internal combustion engine is provided that can favorably determine a shut-off failure of an EGR valve under a high intake pressure condition in which an intake pressure becomes higher than an exhaust pressure. In a case where the high intake pressure condition and a transition condition are established at a time of a shut-off instruction on shutting off the EGR valve, it is determined that a shut-off failure of the EGR valve has occurred if an actual measurement value of the air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas detected by a main air-fuel ratio sensor is a value that is leaner by an amount equal to or greater than a predetermined lean determination value relative to a target value of the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas.

  • Publication number: 20130012404
Abstract: It is intended to provide a method for culturing a novel cancer tissue-derived cell mass or a novel aggregated cancer cell mass that can reflect the behavior of cancer cells accurately in vivo. First, a cancer tissue-derived cell mass or an aggregated cancer cell mass is prepared from an individual. The novel cancer tissue-derived cell mass or the novel aggregated cancer cell mass is cultured, and the properties are evaluated using the cultured cell mass. Examples of the evaluation of properties include the evaluation of genes and the evaluation of culture conditions. In addition, the cancer tissue-derived cell mass or the aggregated cancer cell mass can be stored. It is possible to establish an optimal therapeutic method for an individual efficiently by linking the clinical information or the genetic information on the individual to the stored cancer tissue-derived cell mass or the stored aggregated cancer cell mass.

  • Publication number: 20120259532
Abstract: An object of this invention is, even when executing WGV control, to stably control an air-fuel ratio in parallel therewith. An engine includes a supercharger, a waste gate valve (WGV) and the like. An ECU calculates a wall-surface fuel adherence amount that is an amount of fuel adhering to a wall surface of an intake port based on a plurality of parameters including a degree of opening of the WGV or an indicator corresponding to the degree of opening. The calculated wall-surface fuel adherence amount is reflected in a fuel injection amount. Thus, even when executing WGV control, a state of a blowback amount of exhaust gas that varies with the degree of opening of the WGV can be reflected in the wall-surface fuel adherence amount, in other words, the fuel injection amount, and thus a disturbance of the air-fuel ratio or the like caused by changes in the blowback amount can be suppressed.

  • Patent number: 8256217
Abstract: An ECU for determining whether a request for acceleration is made to a supercharged internal combustion engine includes an acceleration request determining unit that determines whether a pressure difference between the upstream pressure and downstream pressure of a throttle valve disposed in an intake system is equal to or smaller than a predetermined value, and determines that a request for acceleration is made when the pressure difference is equal to or smaller than the predetermined value. The ECU also includes a variable valve actuating mechanism control unit that controls an InVVT and an ExVVT so that the intake charging efficiency and output torque of the engine become equal to the maximum intake charging efficiency and output torque at a certain downstream pressure when the acceleration request determining unit determines that a request for acceleration is made.

  • Patent number: 8251268
Abstract: A front carrier includes an outer frame pipe surrounding the periphery, and a cross pipe and a back-and-forth member which are provided inside the outer frame pipe. A front side portion of the outer frame pipe is lowered at a one-step to form a stepped bottom portion. The back-and-forth member is disposed to extend obliquely downwardly from the cross pipe toward the stepped bottom portion. In addition, the widthwise inside portion of the rear side portion is bent to be forward to form an end side portion, which is joined to the cross pipe to be flush with the back-and-forth member. Thus, a cargo support surface formed by the cross pipe, the back-and-forth member and the end side portion is surrounded by an outer frame portion higher at a one-step than the cargo support. Part of the outer frame portion is allowed to serve as a cargo stopper for the cargo.
