  • Patent number: 4749143
Abstract: A retractor with both emergency and automatic locking mechanisms is provided. The retractor has take-up spindle means; a ratchet wheel; a pawl member engageable with the ratchet wheel and displaceable between a first position, where the pawl member prevents any further rotation of the take-up spindle means in the webbing-releasing direction, and a second position where the pawl member is maintained out of engagement with the ratchet wheel, said pawl member normally assuming the second position; control means for bringing the pawl member to the first position when the webbing is wound on the take-up spindle means after release of the webbing over at least a predetermined first length from the take-up spindle means and then to the second position when the webbing has been taken up over at least a predetermined second length; and an emergency locking mechanism for sensing an emergency state to prevent any further rotation of the take-up spindle means in the webbing-releasing direction.

    Assignee: Nippon Seiko Kabushiki Kaisha
    Inventors: Masahiro Tsukamoto, Katsuo Takiura
  • Patent number: 4747562
Abstract: A retractor is equipped with an emergency locking mechanism and an automatic locking mechanism. It is allowed to change the automatic locking mechanism from a state ready to actuate to a state not ready to actuate and vice versa by suitably changing the wound state of the webbing on a take-up spindle.

  • Patent number: 4726541
Abstract: A emergency locking retractor includes a reel equipped with cogs; lock means capable of assuming any one of a reel-locking position, an intermediate position where the lock means is in engagement with one of the cogs of the reel but still allows the reel to rotate slightly, and a reel non-locking position; first biasing means holding the lock means normally at the non-locking position; an inertia member; second biasing means for normally allowing the inertia member to rotate together with the reel; transmission means for transmitting rotation of the reel to the lock means when the inertia member moves relative to the reel, whereby the lock means is caused to return from the non-locking position to the intermediate position against the first biasing means; and means for permitting the release of connection between the inertia member and transmission means by the second biasing means when the lock means is forced to move to the locking position by a further slight rotation of the reel subsequent to a displaceme

  • Patent number: 4651947
Abstract: A tension locking mechanism of a retractor has a webbing take-up reel rotatably supported on a base, a take-up spring for biasing the take-up reel in a webbing take-up direction, a ratchet member formed integrally with the take-up reel, a latch member adapted to assume a latching position for preventing rotation of the ratchet member and a non-latching position for permitting rotation of the ratchet member, latch member control means for controlling the positions of the latch member, holding means adapted to sense a predetermined movement of a seat occupant and be electrically operated to hold the latch member in the non-latching position, and auxiliary means for imparting an auxiliary force when releasing the holding of the latch member in the non-latching position by the holding means.

  • Patent number: 4564155
Abstract: According to the present invention, the problem that both of the draw-out and the rewinding of a belt become impossible when take-up force locking means and emergency locking means are combined together can be solved by simply adding releasing means for bringing the take-up force locking means into its inoperative condition.

  • Patent number: 4506845
Abstract: In a retractor having a seat occupant restraining belt rolling-up reel rotatably supported on a base and a member for biasing the reel in a belt rolling-up direction, a tension locking mechanism has a mechanism including a pawl, a portion for engaging with the pawl to block the rotation of the reel in the belt rolling-up direction, the portion being integral with the reel, and two cam members comprising portion for bringing the integral portion and the pawl into an engageable state after a series of predetermined belt operations from a state in which the whole amount of the belt has been rolled up, portions for once bringing the pawl and the integral portion into an unengageable state from the engageable state within a belt draw-out range less than a predetermined amount, but returning the pawl and the integral portion into the engageable state when a draw-out force is again eliminated, and a portion for realizing the unengageable state by the draw-out of the belt more than the predetermined amount and bringi
