    Abstract: The far side airbag system has an airbag which is deployed and inflated between adjacent vehicle seats arranged side-by-side in the width direction when an impact is detected against one of a pair of side wall portions of the vehicle. The airbag includes an upper inflation portion having a portion deployed and inflated on a lateral side of a head portion of an occupant seated in the vehicle seat on a side farther from the specific side wall portion, and a lower inflation portion in which a portion including at least a lower end of the lower inflation portion is deployed and inflated between a console box arranged between the adjacent vehicle seats and the occupant. In the upper inflation portion, the portion positioned on the lateral side of the head portion is deployed and inflated such that a dimension in the width direction increases toward a front side.

The airbag includes an upstream inflation portion, which forms a rear part and receives inflation gas, and a downstream inflation portion, which is located forward of the upstream inflation portion. The downstream inflation portion receives inflation gas via the upstream inflation portion. The upstream inflation portion has a front end that is located forward of a front end of the cover when the upstream inflation portion is inflated.

The apparatus includes an airbag, an inflation fluid generator, and a contact preventing member. The airbag is arranged between the support portion and the cushion. The inflation fluid generator supplies inflation fluid for inflating the airbag, thereby raising the seat face. The contact preventing member is arranged between the support portion and the airbag. A part of the contact preventing member that is in the vicinity of the support portion is flexible. The contact preventing member prevents the airbag from contacting the support portion when the airbag is inflated.

    Abstract: The head-protecting airbag apparatus includes an airbag folded up in an elongative contour for covering a window of vehicle upon deployment, and a plurality of cases arranged along the length direction of the folded-up airbag for housing the airbag. The airbag apparatus is mounted on the vehicle by attaching mounting portions of the airbag along an upper periphery of the window together with the cases. The cases are connected by a bendable connecting member and thereby permitting the airbag stored in the cases to be transported in a bent state at the connecting member. The connecting member announces the occurrence of twisting of the airbag between the cases by shortening the distance between the cases for preventing the airbag from being mounted on the vehicle in a twisted state when the airbag apparatus is unfolded for mounting on the vehicle.
