Publication number: 20080224452Abstract: The head-protecting airbag apparatus includes an airbag folded up in an elongative contour for covering a window of vehicle upon deployment, and a plurality of cases arranged along the length direction of the folded-up airbag for housing the airbag. The airbag apparatus is mounted on the vehicle by attaching mounting portions of the airbag along an upper periphery of the window together with the cases. The cases are connected by a bendable connecting member and thereby permitting the airbag stored in the cases to be transported in a bent state at the connecting member. The connecting member announces the occurrence of twisting of the airbag between the cases by shortening the distance between the cases for preventing the airbag from being mounted on the vehicle in a twisted state when the airbag apparatus is unfolded for mounting on the vehicle.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 24, 2008Publication date: September 18, 2008Applicant: TOYODA GOSEI CO., LTD.Inventors: Masao Kino, Motoyuki Tanaka, Kazumi Ichimaru, Yasumoto Tsutsui

Publication number: 20080079243Abstract: A head protecting airbag according to the invention has a plurality of mounting portions which is mounted at an upper edge part of the airbag and which is used to mount the airbag to an upper edge part of a vehicle window. The airbag is formed by a hollow weave consisting of warp and weft threads. The mounting portion includes a mounting hole. The mounting portion includes an adjacent marginal portion which extends from a marginal border portion and is formed of a hollow weave hollow-woven as a single-ply so as to connect an interior-side wall portion to an exterior-side wall portion, so that the adjacent marginal portion constitutes a marginal part of the mounting hole. The mounting portion also includes an outer edge portion which is disposed on an outer circumferential side of the adjacent marginal portion and has two cloth pieces formed of the adjacent marginal portion by being separated into an interior-side part and an exterior-side part which are then woven.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 25, 2007Publication date: April 3, 2008Applicant: TOYODA GOSEI CO., LTD.Inventors: Masao Kino, Tadashi Yamamoto, Yasushi Masuda, Hitoshi Kawabe

Patent number: 7314233Abstract: In the head-protecting airbag device according to the present invention, an airbag folded and housed in the upper edge of an opening inside the vehicle deploys downward to cover the opening. The airbag includes a plurality of cells juxtaposed in the front-rear direction each of which, when fed with inflation gas, extends downward from the upper edge of the opening and inflates to separate its interior and exterior walls. Above the cells is located a gas passage extending in the front-rear direction, via which the cells are communicated with one another. The gas passage includes a joint port for introducing inflation gas into the airbag. In each of the cells, the interior wall and exterior wall are respectively bellows-folded on alternate crest folds projecting in the surface and valley folds recessing inside the cell, such that the airbag is folded to bring its lower edge close to its upper edge. The head-protecting airbag device is able to deploy the airbag swiftly.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2004Date of Patent: January 1, 2008Assignee: Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd.Inventors: Masao Kino, Takanobu Ikeda

Patent number: 7264267Abstract: The head-protecting airbag device (M1) includes an airbag (12) provided with a gas admissive portion (13) and a non-admissive portion (23). The gas admissive portion (13) includes a gas feed passage (14) for feeding inflation gas G toward both front and rearwards of the vehicle, and a plurality of vertical chambers (17) juxtaposed along front-rear direction of the vehicle. Each of the vertical chambers (17) includes a communication port at its upper end for communicating with the gas feed passage (14). The substantial lengths of a vehicle's outer wall (13b) and an inner wall (13a) of the airbag (12) are differentiated from each other by a belt (31) in the periphery (19) of the communication port (18). Thus the periphery (19) of the communication port (18) guides inflation gas (G) obliquely down and toward the vehicle's exterior (O) when inflation gas (G) flows into the vertical chamber (17) via the communication port.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2003Date of Patent: September 4, 2007Assignee: Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd.Inventors: Masao Kino, Toshinori Tanase, Tetsuya Ogata, Yoshio Mizuno, Toru Koyama

Patent number: 7168735Abstract: A head protecting airbag is folded up to be housed at an upper part of a window of a vehicle so as to be deployed and inflated downward from the upper part of the window so as to cover an interior side of the window. In the airbag, a plurality of parallel cells adapted to be deployed and inflated by an inflating gas introduced thereinto are provided in parallel with each other below a gas supply passage portion in which the inflating gas flows along a longitudinal direction. In a cell of the parallel cells so provided which is required to deploy quickly, of front and rear partitioning portions, a partitioning portion situated at an upstream side of the gas flowing in the gas supply passage portion is provided such that an end thereof which extends upward from a lower edge portion is disposed so as to form an inlet port between a distal end of a horizontal portion of a downstream side partitioning portion and itself.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2005Date of Patent: January 30, 2007Assignee: Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd.Inventors: Masao Kino, Tadashi Yamamoto, Michiyasu Ito, Takanobu Ikeda, Tadashi Yamada

Patent number: 7163233Abstract: A head-protecting airbag according to the present invention is normally folded and housed in an upper edge of windows inside a vehicle, and deployable downward from the upper edge of windows upon inflow of inflation gas to cover the vehicle's inner side of the windows. The airbag internally includes a tether joined to the vehicle's inner side wall and the vehicle's outer side wall for regulating the clearance between the inner side wall and the outer side wall as the airbag is completely inflated. The tether is disposed along the front-rear direction of the vehicle. A joint portion of the tether to the vehicle's inner side wall is located at lower level than a joint portion of the tether to the vehicle's outer side wall as viewed in a vertical section taken along the vehicle's transverse direction. The head-protecting airbag of the present invention is able to expand along the windows.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2004Date of Patent: January 16, 2007Assignee: Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd.Inventor: Masao Kino
