  • Publication number: 20060191202
Abstract: A fuel reforming system, comprising a reformer which generates reformate gas containing hydrogen, a carbon monoxide oxidizer containing a carbon monoxide oxidation catalyst which removes carbon monoxide contained in the reformate gas by a shift reaction and a preferential oxidation reaction, and supplies reformate gas from which the carbon monoxide has been removed to the fuel cell, and a cooling device which cools the heat liberated by the shift reaction and preferential oxidation reaction in the carbon monoxide oxidizer by a coolant. The controller determines whether the carbon monoxide oxidizer is in a marginal operation state where a processing performance of the carbon monoxide oxidation catalyst has reached its limit, and performs an avoidance processing to avoid the marginal operation state of the carbon monoxide oxidation catalyst.

  • Patent number: 6794072
Abstract: A fuel cell system is provided which controls the temperature while maintaining the internal pressure of the fuel cell system to a permitted pressure range. A target variation amount in the flow rate of the anode effluent is calculated based on a single target temperature-time curve selected from a plurality of target temperature-time curves. Furthermore the pressure variation of the reformate gas produced by variation in the target flow rate is predicted. It is determined whether the predicted pressure will be maintained to a permitted temperature range. When the predicted pressure will not be maintained to the permitted temperature range, a temperature-time curve with more gentle variation is selected. A final curve is selected by repeating the selection process until it is determined that the predicted pressure will be maintained to the permitted temperature range.

  • Patent number: 6777122
Abstract: A fuel cell stack (8) generates power using hydrogen-rich gas obtained by reforming vaporized methanol in a reformer (6). The vaporized methanol is generated by vaporizing liquid methanol in a vaporizer (5). The vaporizer (5) is heated by combustion gas from a combustor (10). A sensor (31) detects a liquid methanol amount supplied to the vaporizer (5) by a methanol pump (4). A controller (100) calculates a prediction temperature of the vaporizer (5) based on the liquid methanol supply amount, and limits an increase of the liquid methanol supply amount from the methanol pump (4) so that the prediction temperature does not fall below a predetermined temperature (S7A, S7B). In this way, temperature drop of the vaporizer (5) from the predetermined temperature is prevented.

  • Patent number: 6391238
Abstract: Raw material of algae cultivating medium molded body is manufactured by mixing a mixture containing inorganic material, curing material and algae cultivating nutriment, molding the mixture to molded bodies and curing the molded bodies. The molded bodies are manufactured such that the molded bodies are water floatable having a closed cavity inside the body, or containing density decreasing material for example. The manufacturing method enables to produce algae cultivating medium that can float on water in a large quantity. Industrial waste such as coal ashes and incineration ashes, sands and crushed shells can be used as the inorganic raw material of the medium. As the curing material which solidify the molded body, other than cement, algae cultivating nutriment such as phosphorus compounds can be used. Extrusion molding can favorably be applied for molding molded body. A cylindrically molded body can be sealed the both edges thereof to form a cavity portion inside thereof.
