Publication number: 20020025733Abstract: A female terminal fitting (20) has a main body (21) in the form of a rectangular tube. An elastic contact piece (27) is formed by folding back an extending part of a vertical wall (26) on the main body (21). An accommodation space (28) is defined in the main body (21) upward from the elastic contact piece (27). A male terminal fitting (10) can be inserted into the accommodation space (28) and displaced downward to bring the male terminal fitting (10) into contact with the elastic contact piece (27). Restricting projections (37, 38) project from upper and lower sides of the elastic contact piece (27) and are held in contact with a receiving portion (36) that bulges out from the vertical wall (26). The restricting projections (37, 38) prevent the elastic contact piece (27) from being deformed in response to forces exerted by the male terminal fitting (10).Type: ApplicationFiled: August 27, 2001Publication date: February 28, 2002Inventor: Masashi Saito

Patent number: 6346016Abstract: Chained terminals (10) are formed such that a multitude of terminal fitting pieces (12) are connected in parallel with a lateral edge of a carrier (11) in the form of a long strip, and are wound around and dispensed from a reel (20) with an interlayer sheet (21) laid underneath. Each terminal fitting piece (12) is formed with projections (17) projecting in a direction normal to a radial direction of the reel (20), i.e. a direction along the plane of the interlayer sheet (21). Thus, the projections (17) neither stick into the interlayer sheet (21) nor are deformed by being caught in by the interlayer sheet (21). Protecting portions (19) are aligned with the projections (17) but extend further from the carrier (11) for protecting the projections (17).Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1999Date of Patent: February 12, 2002Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventors: Masahiko Aoyama, Masashi Saito, Takashi Koide

Publication number: 20020001985Abstract: When the holder 20 is assembled to the male side housing 10 (stationary side housing), the cam grooves 23a, 23b respectively engage with the cam pins 41a, 41b, so that the female side housing 40 (movable side housing) is displaced in a direction perpendicular to the assembling direction and located at the connecting position, so that both the terminal metal fittings 18, 50 are connected with each other. At this time, due to the friction caused between the terminal metal fittings 18, 50, a force resisting displacement of the female side housing 40 and also resisting assembly of the holder 20 is generated. However, a cam action is exerted by the cam grooves 23a, 23b which are oblique with respect to the assembling direction. Therefore, an intensity of the operation force to be given to the holder 20 in the assembling direction is low. When the above structure is adopted, it is unnecessary to provide a manual operation member which is independent as an assembly force reducing means.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 16, 2001Publication date: January 3, 2002Applicant: Autonetworks Technologies, Ltd.Inventors: Masashi Saito, Kensaku Takata, Masanori Wakui, Kasuyuki Shiraki

Patent number: 6210223Abstract: A shielded connector is provided with an improved shielding characteristic. The shielded connector includes male and female shielded connectors (10a, 10b). A section of an inner conductor (51) of a shielded cable (50) that is not covered by an outer conductor (52) and a portion of an inner terminal (20a) at and near an inner crimping portion (24) that is fastened to the leading end of the inner conductor (51) are covered on three sides by a covering portion (45). Accordingly, shielding characteristic can be improved remarkably. By connecting the male and female shielded connectors (10a, 10b) with opening surfaces of the covering portions (45) thereof faced in opposite directions, radiation characteristic can be balanced. Therefore, an influence on a high-frequency signal transmitting through the inner conductor (51) can be reduced when it is passing through the shielded connectors (10a, 10b), with the result that shielding characteristic can be improved.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1999Date of Patent: April 3, 2001Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventors: Masahiko Aoyama, Masashi Saito, Takashi Koide, Masahiro Tanaka

Patent number: 6045395Abstract: A contact face 16 of a rib 15 is arranged to be inclined downwards with respect to the fitting direction of connector housings 10,20. Detecting terminal fittings 14 make contact with the contact face 16 and are resiliently bent in a predetermined manner. If the rib 15 should be bent away from the detecting terminal fittings 14, the detecting terminal fittings 14 follow due to their inherent resilience and thereby maintain contact with the contact face 16.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1998Date of Patent: April 4, 2000Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventors: Masashi Saito, Hajime Okada

Patent number: 5904588Abstract: A cover 20 is attached to connector body 10, and has a connecting and supporting member 30 engageable with a receiving member 16. Once engaged the member 30 cannot be removed. The connecting and supporting member 30 can be released only by breaking a breakable member 32. Consequently the connection of the cover 20 with the connector body 10 is maintained with certainty. In a preferred embodiment a part of the breakable member 31 is retained after breaking, this giving evidence that the cover has been removed.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1997Date of Patent: May 18, 1999Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventors: Kazuhiko Nimura, Masashi Saito, Hajime Okada, Hirotaka Makino

Patent number: 5803760Abstract: A grip shaft extends substantially longitudinally from the rear of a charge connector and a lever is mounted thereon. The connector is connected to a battery fixture by inserting it therein while holding the grip shaft. The lever moves the connector and fixture toward each other as it is pivoted against the shaft, thereby fully connecting the fixture and connector. Thus, the burden on the wrist of the operator during the connection is reduced, even if the battery fixture is horizontally mounted in a relatively low position.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1995Date of Patent: September 8, 1998Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventors: Hikaru Ito, Masashi Saito, Eiji Saijo, Shinichi Yamada

Patent number: 5637977Abstract: This invention provides a charging apparatus for an electric vehicle which prevents a charging coupling from becoming overheated and melting upon charging. In the charging apparatus, when a lever 33 provided on a supply connector 2 is grasped, the supply connector 2 is completely fitted to a vehicle inlet 1 by a pair of stays 36 connected to the lever 33. A slide switch 42, which serves to open and close a charging circuit in the supply connector 2, is inhibited from being operated by a stopper face on the lever 33 under a normal condition and allowed to be operated when the supply connector 2 is completely fitted to the vehicle inlet 1. When a microswitch 44 associated with the slide switch 42 is turned to ON, a relay 90 in a charger 74 is energized to close the charging circuit, thereby enabling conduction from a power source to a battery.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1994Date of Patent: June 10, 1997Assignees: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd., Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Masashi Saito, Shinichi Yamada, Eiji Saijo, Hikaru Itou, Yasuyoshi Fukao, Toshiyuki Sekimori
