    Abstract: A shadow mask is arranged to face a phosphor screen formed on an inner surface of a panel. A plurality of aperture columns are formed in parallel in the shadow mask. Each aperture column includes a plurality of apertures arranged in line at a predetermined interval. On both sides of each aperture column on the surface of the shadow mask facing the electron gun, stripe-shaped dielectric layers for acting on electron beams toward the apertures are formed respectively, and extend in substantial parallel with the aperture columns. The shadow mask is manufactured in such a manner that stripe-shaped insulating material layers are formed on the surface of a mask base material facing the electron gun, the mask base material is thereafter shaped into a predetermined shape, and the insulating material layers on the shaped mask are sintered.

    Abstract: A deflection yoke on a yoke mounting portion with a truncated pyramid shape has a pair of saddle-type horizontal deflecting coils that is located symmetrically with a central axis and has a truncated pyramid shape. A core with a truncated cone shape is coaxially located on the outer periphery of the horizontal deflecting coils. A pair of vertical deflecting coils are toroidally wound around the core. If the positions of a horizontal axis and a vertical axis are given by 0° and 90°, respectively, in the circumference direction around the central axis, the winding of one vertical deflecting coil has a starting point on the horizontal-axis side within the range of 5°-30° and is distributed from the starting point to 90° and wound symmetrically with the vertical axis. The windings of the vertical deflecting coils are wound symmetrically with the horizontal axis.

The shadow mask comprises an auxiliary mask fixed to a region that contains the minor axis of the effective portion of the shadow mask body. The auxiliary mask is in the form of a strip that extends long in the direction of the minor axis and has a large number of electron beam passage apertures that communicate individually with the electron beam passage apertures of the effective portion.

A joint portion between the larger and smaller holes of each electron beam passage apertures in the central portion of the effective area is situated in the thickness-direction central portion of the mask body. A joint portion between the larger and smaller holes of each electron beam passage aperture in the peripheral portion of the effective area is situated closer to the one surface side of the effective area than the thickness-direction central portion is, the larger hole being offset against the smaller hole in the direction of the major axis.

    Abstract: The outer surface of a panel effective section of a vacuum envelope is substantially flattened. A phosphor screen is formed on the inner surface of the effective section and includes stripe-shaped phosphor layers and light absorption layers arranged in parallel. The panel effective section is formed such that a corner portion is 8 mm to 15 mm thicker than the central portion and the transmittance of the central portion is set at 40% to 60%. The phosphor screen is formed such that the ratio of the width of a light absorption layer to the pitch of phosphor layers in the central portion of the panel effective section is larger than or equal to that in the peripheral portion thereof. A shadow mask is opposed to the phosphor screen and has a mask body in which a number of electron beam passage apertures are formed. The pitch of apertures formed in the peripheral portion of the mask body is 1.3 to 1.4 times as large as that of apertures formed in the central portion thereof.
