  • Patent number: 6441566
Abstract: The thickness of a face panel is greater at a peripheral edge portion than at a center portion. At the inner surface of the face panel, a curvature radius in a short axis direction on a long axis is set to decrease from the center of the face panel toward a long axis end and, with L representing a distance from the center of the face panel to the long axis end, has a minimal value at a position spaced from the center of the face panel more toward the long axis end than L/2. A phosphor screen on the face panel has phosphor layers and non-emitting black layers and a percentage of the non-emitting black layers per unit area at least in the neighborhood of a diagonal axis end of the face panel is equal to or smaller than that at the center portion of the face panel.

  • Patent number: 6441545
Abstract: In a color cathode ray tube in which the external surface of an effective portion of a panel has a flat surface or a slight curvature, the shadow mask is set such that the layout distance between electron beam through hole array near the long side of an effective surface of the shadow mask is larger in the vicinity of the short axis than the layout distance at the center of the effective surface. Further, the layout distance becomes gradually smaller in direction away from the short axis, and thereafter, the layout distance changes to an increase. In the vicinity of the short side of the effective surface, the layout distance becomes equal to or larger than the layout distance near the short axis. Therefore, the curvature of the shadow mask and the electron beam through hole array are set in proper condition, and mislanding of beam landing due to deformation or oscillation of the shadow mask can be reduced. At the same time, howling of the phosphor screen can be minimized.

  • Publication number: 20020084737
Abstract: A shadow body includes an effective area having minor and major axes that extend perpendicularly to each other. Each of electron beam passage apertures formed in the effective area is a communication hole that connects a larger hole opening in one surface of the effective area and a smaller hole opening in the other surface of the effective area. A joint portion between the larger and smaller holes of each electron beam passage apertures in the central portion of the effective area is situated in the thickness-direction central portion of the mask body. A joint portion between the larger and smaller holes of each electron beam passage aperture in the peripheral portion of the effective area is situated closer to the one surface side of the effective area than the thickness-direction central portion is, the larger hole being offset against the smaller hole in the direction of the major axis.

  • Publication number: 20020079822
Abstract: An electron gun assembly of a color cathode ray tube emits at least one electron beam having an oblong cross-sectional shape extending substantially in the horizontal direction, and emits three electron beams in a substantially non-convergent state toward the central portion of a phosphor screen. A deflection device comprises an auxiliary magnetic field generator for generating a quadrupole magnetic field component which focuses the electron beam with an oblong cross section more heavily in the horizontal direction than in the vertical direction. The auxiliary magnetic field generator is located in a given region in a tube-axis direction in which the horizontally deflecting coil is located.

  • Patent number: 6333594
Abstract: Provided is a color cathode ray tube, which comprises a panel including a substantially rectangular effective portion, of which the outer surface is a flat surface or a slightly curved surface, and a shadow mask having an effective surface opposite the inner surface of the effective portion of the panel. In this color cathode ray tube, the inner surface of the effective portion of the panel is a curved surface having a substantially infinite curvature radius RXp1 in the major-axis direction on the major axis thereof near the center, a predetermined curvature radius RXp2 in the major-axis direction near peripheral portions on the major axis, and another predetermined curvature radius in the minor-axis direction on the minor axis thereof. • Patent number: 6326722
Abstract: A shadow mask has a mask body and a substantially rectangular mask frame attached to a peripheral portion of the mask body. The mask body has a substantially rectangular curved effective surface opposed to a phosphor screen formed on an inner surface of a panel. • Patent number: 6323589
Abstract: A color cathode ray tube has a shadow mask. The shadow mask is composed of an almost rectangular mask body and an almost rectangular mask frame. The mask body has an effective surface facing a fluorescent screen, a non-aperture section surrounding the effective surface, and a bent skirt section formed on the periphery of the non-aperture section. The mask frame has a sidewall section provided on the skirt section of the mask body. In the shadow mask of such a configuration, a step section having a step in the direction perpendicular to the skirt section of the mask body is formed. With this configuration, the strength with which the curved surface of the effective surface of the shadow mask is enhanced, which prevents the color purity from deteriorating due to deformation and facilitates the formation of the shadow mask.
